Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For a long time, they were created with open vents which was intended to increase air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will close off the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop bugs and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is protected, if you need it we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also is the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem critical when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at noticing those problems. We can offer a repair product that is for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a sinking foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
