Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas and not basements. For many years, they were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will seal the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. This will also stop pests and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to level sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows or doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at evaluating those problems. We can implement a repair product that is for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a sinking foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
