Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For a long time, they were constructed with vents which was intended to increase air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to half of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been dealing with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control high humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent pests and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, normally they will show themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in your brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows or doors will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at evaluating those issues. We can offer a repair product designed for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a sinking foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
