Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with open vents which was intended to increase air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will seal the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent pests and animals from getting in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, normally they will present themselves as stair-step cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at noticing these issues. We can offer a repair product intended for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a uneven foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
