Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For a long time, these were built with open vents which was intended to increase air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working on crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control high humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will seal the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent pests and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in your brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that your doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem critical at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for particular problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at evaluating these problems. We can offer a repair solution that is for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a uneven foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
