Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For many years, these were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been dealing with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will close off the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent rodents and animals from moving in your crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, normally they will show themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that your windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem critical at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at tracking down those problems. We can implement a repair solution intended for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a sinking foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
