Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas and not basements. For many years, they were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been dealing with crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the proper way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can close off the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent critters and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a series of floor jacks to lift sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves as stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that the windows will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem critical when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at tracking down these problems. We can offer a repair product intended for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a uneven foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
