Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas and not basements. For many years, they were built with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to seal them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent bugs and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, normally they will present themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in your brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem problematic when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at spotting those problems. We can implement a repair solution intended for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a sloping foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
