Crawl Space Solutions

In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For a long time, these were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent rodents and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to repair sloping floors above the crawl space.
