Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces and not basements. For many years, these were built with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Up to half of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been dealing with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can close off the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also prevent bugs and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a series of floor jacks to level sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, they will generally show themselves as stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that the doors and windows will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem problematic when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at tracking down these issues. We can utilize a repair product that is for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a uneven foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
