Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas and not basements. For a long time, they were built with open vents which was intended to increase air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been dealing with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will close off the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop bugs and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the building itself but it also is the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, they will generally present themselves as stair-step cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that the doors and windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems to determine if a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at spotting these problems. We can implement a repair solution intended for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a settling foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
