Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For a long time, they were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can foster the growth of mildew. Up to half of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working on crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. This will also stop pests and animals from moving in your crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to repair sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves as stair stepping cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that your doors or windows will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at tracking down those problems. We can offer a repair product intended for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a settling foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
