Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can close off the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent bugs and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves as stair-step cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that the doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at tracking down those problems. We can implement a repair product designed for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a sloping foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
