Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been dealing with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to seal them off and control the humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop pests and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the building itself but it also is the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves as stair-step cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows and doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem problematic when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at evaluating those issues. We can implement a repair product that is for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a sinking foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
