Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For a long time, they were constructed with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the proper way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent rodents and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to repair sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, normally they will present themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that the windows and doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem problematic at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at tracking down those problems. We can utilize a repair solution that is for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a uneven foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
