Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For many years, they were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control high humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will close off the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent bugs and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to level sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of the most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves as diagonal cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at noticing these problems. We can implement a repair solution that is for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a uneven foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
