Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For many years, they were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been enclosing crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control high humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent critters and animals from getting in the crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a system of floor jacks to repair sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, they will generally present themselves as stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that the doors and windows will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem problematic when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at tracking down these problems. We can utilize a repair product that is for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a settling foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
