Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the weather and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been encapsulating crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will seal the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also stop bugs and animals from getting in the crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to lift sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of the most important parts. It not only supports the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, normally they will present themselves as stair-step cracks in your brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that your windows and doors will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem problematic when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at noticing those issues. We can utilize a repair solution intended for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a sinking foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
