Crawl Space Solutions
In White Stone, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the best way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can seal the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also prevent bugs and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves as stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors or windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at spotting those problems. We can implement a repair solution designed for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a settling foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
