Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were constructed with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Up to half of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to close them off and control high humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will seal the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent pests and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, they will generally show themselves as stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that the windows will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at noticing these problems. We can offer a repair product that is for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a settling foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
