Crawl Space Solutions
In White Stone, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were built with vents which was intended to increase air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which can foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working on crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to close them off and control the humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent critters and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to level sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, they will generally show themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that the windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at tracking down those issues. We can utilize a repair product intended for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a sinking foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
