Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For many years, they were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can close off the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. This will also stop bugs and animals from settling in your crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to level sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves as stair-step cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors or windows will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at tracking down these issues. We can implement a repair solution intended for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a sinking foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
