Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For many years, they were constructed with vents which was intended to increase air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can close off the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop pests and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is protected, if you need it we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to level sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, normally they will show themselves as stair-step cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem problematic at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at tracking down those problems. We can implement a repair solution intended for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a settling foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
