Crawl Space Solutions
In White Stone, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For a long time, they were created with vents which was intended to increase air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been dealing with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will seal the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop pests and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a series of floor jacks to level sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of the most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows and doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at evaluating those problems. We can utilize a repair solution that is for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a sloping foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
