Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can foster the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been enclosing crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. This will also prevent critters and animals from getting in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a system of floor jacks to lift sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, normally they will present themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that the windows or doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at tracking down these issues. We can implement a repair solution that is for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a sinking foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
