Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For a long time, they were constructed with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been enclosing crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will seal the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop pests and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a system of floor jacks to stabilize sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also is the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves as stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors or windows will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems to determine if a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at tracking down those issues. We can offer a repair solution intended for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a sloping foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
