Crawl Space Solutions
In White Stone, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For a long time, they were constructed with vents which was intended to increase air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been encapsulating crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can seal the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. This will also stop bugs and animals from getting in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if you need it we can install a system of floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also is the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, they will generally present themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows or doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at evaluating these issues. We can implement a repair solution that is for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a sloping foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
