Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas and not basements. For many years, they were created with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been helping customers with their crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the best way to close them off and control high humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will close off the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. This will also stop bugs and animals from settling in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to level sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only supports the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, they will generally show themselves as stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at tracking down those problems. We can utilize a repair solution that is for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a sinking foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
