Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For many years, they were built with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been encapsulating crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also prevent critters and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to repair sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves as diagonal cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that the windows or doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem problematic when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at noticing these issues. We can implement a repair product that is for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a uneven foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
