Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For many years, they were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to seal them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. This will also prevent rodents and animals from settling in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also is the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, they will generally show themselves as stair-step cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows and doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem critical when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at tracking down these problems. We can utilize a repair product designed for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a sinking foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
