Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For a long time, these were built with open vents which was intended to increase air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which can foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to half of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will seal the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. This will also prevent critters and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a system of floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also is the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem problematic at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at evaluating those problems. We can utilize a repair solution that is for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a settling foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
