Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For a long time, these were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been encapsulating crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the best way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent pests and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to lift sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also is the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, normally they will show themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that the windows or doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at tracking down those issues. We can offer a repair solution that is for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a sloping foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
