Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been dealing with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will seal the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent bugs and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to lift sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also is the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, normally they will show themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at tracking down those issues. We can utilize a repair product that is for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a sloping foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
