Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas and not basements. For a long time, they were constructed with vents which was intended to increase air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the weather and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been encapsulating crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will seal the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. This will also stop critters and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to repair sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that the windows will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at evaluating these problems. We can offer a repair product designed for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a sloping foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
