Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For a long time, they were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space protected from the weather and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working on crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent pests and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if necessary we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to repair sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also is the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, they will generally show themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at spotting those issues. We can utilize a repair product intended for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a sinking foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
