Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to half of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been enclosing crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will seal the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent bugs and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves as diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that the doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at tracking down these problems. We can offer a repair product that is for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a sinking foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
