Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For many years, they were constructed with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been helping customers with their crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will seal the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop critters and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that the windows and doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at tracking down these problems. We can utilize a repair product intended for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a uneven foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
