Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were created with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control the humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will close off the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop bugs and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a series of floor jacks to lift sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also is the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves as stair-step cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that your doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at spotting these problems. We can implement a repair solution intended for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a settling foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
