Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For many years, these were built with vents which was intended to increase air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been encapsulating crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can seal the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent critters and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is closed off, if you need it we can install a series of floor jacks to repair sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves as stair stepping cracks in your brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that your doors or windows will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at spotting those issues. We can offer a repair product designed for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a settling foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
