Crawl Space Solutions
In Wake, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For a long time, these were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can close off the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop pests and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we can install a series of floor jacks to repair sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves as stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows and doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem problematic when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at spotting these problems. We can implement a repair product designed for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a sloping foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
