Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were constructed with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been encapsulating crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will seal the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop critters and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to lift sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, they will generally present themselves as stair stepping cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that your windows and doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem problematic at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at tracking down those problems. We can offer a repair solution intended for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a sinking foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
