Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For a long time, they were constructed with vents which was intended to increase air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been helping customers with their crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the proper way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will seal the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also stop pests and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also is the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, normally they will present themselves as diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors and windows will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at tracking down these issues. We can utilize a repair product intended for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a sinking foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
