Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces and not basements. For many years, these were created with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been working on crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control the humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will close off the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop bugs and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if you need it we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that the doors will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at noticing these issues. We can utilize a repair product intended for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a settling foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
