Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For a long time, they were created with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can foster the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the weather and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can seal the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent critters and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to level sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of the most important parts. It not only supports the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves as diagonal cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows and doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem critical at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at noticing these problems. We can utilize a repair product that is for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a sloping foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
