Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces and not basements. For a long time, these were created with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to close them off and control high humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can seal the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop bugs and animals from getting in the crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is protected, if you need it we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves as diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors or windows will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem problematic at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at evaluating these issues. We can implement a repair product intended for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a settling foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
