Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been helping customers with their crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the best way to seal them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. This will also stop bugs and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we can install a system of floor jacks to repair sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, normally they will present themselves as stair-step cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that the windows and doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at spotting these issues. We can implement a repair product intended for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a settling foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
