Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For a long time, they were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been dealing with crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the best way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can close off the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent rodents and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a series of floor jacks to repair sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that your doors and windows will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at noticing these issues. We can implement a repair product intended for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a uneven foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
