Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas and not basements. For a long time, they were built with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been dealing with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will seal the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop pests and animals from settling in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a series of floor jacks to lift sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, normally they will present themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that your doors or windows will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at spotting these problems. We can offer a repair solution intended for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a sloping foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
