Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces and not basements. For many years, these were built with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been dealing with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control high humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop pests and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to repair sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only supports the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors and windows will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at noticing those issues. We can implement a repair product that is for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a uneven foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
