Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been enclosing crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to seal them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can close off the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also stop rodents and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to level sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, normally they will show themselves as diagonal cracks in your brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors or windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem critical at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at tracking down those issues. We can offer a repair solution that is for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a settling foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
