Crawl Space Solutions
In Virginia Beach, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For many years, they were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to half of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control high humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can seal the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent pests and animals from settling in your crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, normally they will present themselves as stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors or windows will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem problematic at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at evaluating these problems. We can offer a repair product designed for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a sinking foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
