Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For a long time, they were created with open vents which was intended to increase air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to seal them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent bugs and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we can install a series of floor jacks to level sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves as stair stepping cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that your windows and doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at evaluating those problems. We can implement a repair solution that is for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a settling foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
