Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas and not basements. For a long time, these were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Up to half of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent bugs and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a system of floor jacks to stabilize sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, normally they will present themselves as stair stepping cracks in your brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows or doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at evaluating those issues. We can offer a repair solution intended for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a sloping foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
