Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For many years, they were created with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to half of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the weather and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been helping customers with their crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can close off the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. This will also prevent critters and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a system of floor jacks to repair sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves as diagonal cracks in your brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows or doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at spotting those problems. We can utilize a repair product intended for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a sinking foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
