Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working on crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control high humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will seal the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop critters and animals from moving in your crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is protected, if you need it we will install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of the most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, they will generally present themselves as stair-step cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that your doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at evaluating these problems. We can utilize a repair solution designed for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a uneven foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
