Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For many years, they were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working with crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the proper way to close them off and control the humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can seal the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent rodents and animals from moving in your crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also is the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, they will generally present themselves as stair-step cracks in your brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that your doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at noticing those issues. We can utilize a repair solution intended for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a uneven foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
