Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to half of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been dealing with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control the humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can close off the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also stop pests and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the home itself but it also is the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves as stair-step cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem problematic at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at tracking down those problems. We can implement a repair product designed for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a settling foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
