Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the best way to seal them off and control the humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent critters and animals from moving in your crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a series of floor jacks to level sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, normally they will show themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that your windows and doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem problematic when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at tracking down those issues. We can implement a repair solution that is for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a sloping foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
