Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were constructed with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been enclosing crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the proper way to seal them off and control the humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can seal the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop pests and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, they will generally show themselves as stair-step cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem critical when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at evaluating those problems. We can utilize a repair solution intended for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a settling foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
