Crawl Space Solutions
In Virginia Beach, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which can foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been enclosing crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to seal them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will seal the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop critters and animals from getting in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to lift sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also is the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in your brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that your windows or doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at evaluating these issues. We can implement a repair product intended for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a sloping foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
