Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been dealing with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control the humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also prevent bugs and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a system of floor jacks to lift sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves as stair-step cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that the doors and windows will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at noticing those issues. We can implement a repair product designed for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a settling foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
