Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were constructed with vents which was intended to increase air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been encapsulating crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can close off the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop pests and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a system of floor jacks to lift sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of the most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, they will generally present themselves as diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that your doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem problematic when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at noticing those problems. We can implement a repair product that is for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a sinking foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
