Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For a long time, these were created with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been encapsulating crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to seal them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent pests and animals from settling in your crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to level sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that your doors and windows will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at tracking down these issues. We can utilize a repair solution that is for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a sloping foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
