Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces and not basements. For a long time, these were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been encapsulating crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can close off the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent bugs and animals from moving in your crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves as stair stepping cracks in your brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that your doors and windows will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at evaluating these problems. We can utilize a repair product that is for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a settling foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
