Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas and not basements. For many years, these were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to half of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been encapsulating crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control the humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will close off the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent pests and animals from settling in your crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a system of floor jacks to lift sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that the doors and windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for particular problems to determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at noticing those issues. We can implement a repair product intended for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a uneven foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
