Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were created with vents which was intended to increase air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to seal them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can close off the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop pests and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is protected, if you need it we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, they will generally show themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in your brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors or windows will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at evaluating those problems. We can implement a repair solution that is for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a uneven foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
