Crawl Space Solutions
In Tasley, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been enclosing crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can close off the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent pests and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to repair sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves as stair-step cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that your doors or windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at noticing those issues. We can implement a repair solution intended for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a sloping foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
