Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas and not basements. For many years, these were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control high humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. This will also prevent pests and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to lift sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, normally they will present themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at noticing those issues. We can offer a repair product intended for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a sinking foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
