Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For a long time, they were created with open vents which was intended to increase air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been helping customers with their crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control high humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent pests and animals from settling in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves as stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that the windows or doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem problematic when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at noticing those problems. We can implement a repair product designed for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a uneven foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
