Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For many years, these were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can foster the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been enclosing crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent pests and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we can install a system of floor jacks to lift sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves as stair-step cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that the windows and doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at evaluating these problems. We can offer a repair solution designed for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a sloping foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
