Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were constructed with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to half of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can seal the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also stop pests and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we can install a system of floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves as stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at evaluating these problems. We can offer a repair product designed for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a uneven foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
