Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were created with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which can harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will close off the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also stop critters and animals from moving in your crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves as diagonal cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows and doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at spotting those issues. We can offer a repair product designed for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a sloping foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
