Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas and not basements. For many years, these were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been enclosing crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will close off the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. This will also stop critters and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, they will generally present themselves as diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that the doors or windows will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem problematic when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at spotting those problems. We can utilize a repair solution that is for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a settling foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
