Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For many years, these were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working on crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control high humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can close off the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. This will also prevent rodents and animals from settling in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves as diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that the windows will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem critical at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at spotting these problems. We can implement a repair solution that is for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a sloping foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
