Sagging Floors in Suffolk

In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For a long time, these were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.

JB Design has been enclosing crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to seal them off and control high humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can close off the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop bugs and animals from getting in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors above the crawl space.

Structural Foundation Repair

Foundation Cracks in Suffolk

The homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also is the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, they will generally present themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that the windows will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.

It is good that the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at evaluating those issues. We can utilize a repair product that is for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a sinking foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
