Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were created with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been working with crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can close off the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent rodents and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is protected, if necessary we can install a system of floor jacks to lift sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also is the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in your brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that your doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at evaluating these issues. We can implement a repair product intended for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a uneven foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
