Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces and not basements. For a long time, these were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will close off the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent bugs and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a system of floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems to determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at spotting these problems. We can offer a repair solution intended for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a sinking foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
