Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were constructed with vents which was intended to increase air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been enclosing crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control the humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can seal the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop pests and animals from settling in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to lift sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves as stair-step cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that the doors will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem critical at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems to determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at noticing those problems. We can implement a repair product designed for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a uneven foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
