Crawl Space Solutions
In Schley, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas and not basements. For many years, these were created with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to half of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can close off the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop rodents and animals from settling in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is protected, if you need it we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to level sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, normally they will show themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in your brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that your doors or windows will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at spotting those problems. We can offer a repair product that is for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a uneven foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
