Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces and not basements. For many years, these were built with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been encapsulating crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the proper way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. This will also prevent bugs and animals from moving in your crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is protected, if you need it we will install a system of floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves as stair-step cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows or doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem problematic when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at spotting these issues. We can utilize a repair product intended for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a sinking foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
