Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were created with open vents which was intended to increase air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the best way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can seal the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop critters and animals from settling in the crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if necessary we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to level sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves as diagonal cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors and windows will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at tracking down these issues. We can offer a repair solution intended for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a sinking foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
