Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were created with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been encapsulating crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will seal the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop rodents and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if you need it we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that the windows and doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at evaluating these problems. We can implement a repair solution that is for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a sinking foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
