Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were constructed with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been encapsulating crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can seal the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop rodents and animals from settling in your crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if necessary we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to level sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, normally they will show themselves as stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems to determine if a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at evaluating these problems. We can implement a repair product intended for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a sloping foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
