Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For a long time, they were constructed with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to half of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been encapsulating crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control high humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will close off the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop pests and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves as stair stepping cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that your doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at tracking down these problems. We can implement a repair solution designed for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a sloping foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
