Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will seal the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop bugs and animals from moving in your crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to lift sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, normally they will present themselves as diagonal cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that the windows or doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem problematic at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at evaluating those problems. We can utilize a repair solution designed for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a settling foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
