Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas and not basements. For a long time, these were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the weather and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been enclosing crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will close off the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop rodents and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to lift sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves as stair stepping cracks in your brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors and windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem problematic at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at noticing those problems. We can utilize a repair solution designed for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a uneven foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
