Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which can harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can seal the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also stop pests and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is protected, if necessary we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to level sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, they will generally present themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows or doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at spotting these problems. We can offer a repair solution designed for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a uneven foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
