Crawl Space Solutions
In Schley, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For many years, these were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been dealing with crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the proper way to seal them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can close off the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent pests and animals from moving in your crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to level sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also is the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, normally they will present themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that your windows will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem problematic at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at noticing those issues. We can offer a repair solution intended for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a sloping foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
