Crawl Space Solutions
In Schley, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For a long time, they were built with vents which was intended to increase air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent pests and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to lift sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves as diagonal cracks in your brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors and windows will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem critical when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at tracking down those problems. We can utilize a repair solution intended for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a uneven foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
