Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For many years, these were built with vents which was intended to increase air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been dealing with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can seal the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop bugs and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of the most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that your windows and doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at spotting those problems. We can implement a repair solution intended for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a settling foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
