Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For many years, these were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been dealing with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can close off the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop critters and animals from settling in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if you need it we can install a series of floor jacks to lift sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of the most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also is the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves as diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors and windows will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem critical at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at tracking down those issues. We can utilize a repair solution that is for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a sinking foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
