Crawl Space Solutions

Crawl Space Jacks in Rescue

In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For a long time, they were built with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.

JB Design has been dealing with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will seal the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop critters and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to lift sinking floors above the crawl space.

Structural Foundation Repair

Foundation Settlement Repair Rescue

Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves as diagonal cracks in your brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that your windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.

It is good that many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at evaluating those problems. We can implement a repair solution designed for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a uneven foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
