Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been encapsulating crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to close them off and control the humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent pests and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to repair sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves as stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that the doors and windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for particular problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at tracking down these problems. We can utilize a repair solution intended for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a sinking foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
