Crawl Space Solutions
In Rescue, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For many years, these were built with open vents which was intended to increase air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the best way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop rodents and animals from moving in your crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to lift sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the building itself but it also is the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, normally they will present themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at tracking down those issues. We can offer a repair product that is for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a settling foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
