Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For a long time, these were created with open vents which was intended to increase air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can close off the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also stop rodents and animals from getting in the crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we can install a system of floor jacks to level sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, normally they will present themselves as diagonal cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that the windows or doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at noticing these problems. We can utilize a repair product that is for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a uneven foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
