Crawl Space Solutions

Crawl Space Encapsulation in Rescue

In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For a long time, these were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to half of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the weather and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.

Our team has been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will seal the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent bugs and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to level sinking floors above the crawl space.

Structural Foundation Repair

Foundation Cracks in Rescue

Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, normally they will present themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows and doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem problematic at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.

Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at evaluating these problems. We can implement a repair product designed for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a uneven foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
