Crawl Space Solutions

Crawl Space Jacks in Rescue

In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For a long time, they were built with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.

JB Design has been working on crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the best way to seal them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent bugs and animals from getting in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a series of floor jacks to repair sloping floors above the crawl space.

Structural Foundation Repair

Foundation Settlement Repair Rescue

Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also is the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves as diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows and doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.

It is good that the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at noticing those problems. We can utilize a repair solution designed for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a settling foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
