Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For many years, these were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been dealing with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will close off the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent rodents and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is protected, if you need it we will install a system of floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in your brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that your windows or doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem critical at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at tracking down those issues. We can offer a repair product designed for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a settling foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
