Crawl Space Solutions

Crawl Space Encapsulation in Rescue

In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to half of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.

JB Design has been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will close off the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop bugs and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is protected, if you need it we will install a system of floor jacks to repair sloping floors above the crawl space.

Structural Foundation Repair

Foundation Cracks in Rescue

Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also is the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves as stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows and doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.

Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at evaluating those issues. We can implement a repair product intended for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a sloping foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
