Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas and not basements. For a long time, they were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been encapsulating crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control the humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent critters and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is protected, if you need it we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to repair sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that your doors or windows will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem problematic at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at noticing those problems. We can implement a repair product that is for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a sloping foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
