Crawl Space Solutions

Sagging Floors in Rescue

In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces and not basements. For many years, these were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which can foster the growth of mildew. Up to half of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.

JB Design has been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will seal the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent rodents and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a system of floor jacks to repair sinking floors above the crawl space.

Structural Foundation Repair

Foundation Settlement Repair Rescue

Your foundation is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that the doors or windows will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem problematic at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.

Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at noticing these problems. We can offer a repair solution that is for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a settling foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
