In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces and not basements. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will close off the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering.
