Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For a long time, these were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been enclosing crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to seal them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will close off the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop critters and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a system of floor jacks to repair sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, normally they will present themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that the doors or windows will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at evaluating those problems. We can implement a repair product intended for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a sloping foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
