Sagging Floors in Rescue

In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For a long time, these were built with open vents which was intended to increase air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to half of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.

JB Design has been encapsulating crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will seal the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent rodents and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors above the crawl space.

Structural Foundation Repair

Foundation Settlement Repair Rescue

The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also is the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that the windows and doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.

It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at tracking down those problems. We can utilize a repair solution that is for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a uneven foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
