Crawl Space Encapsulation in Rescue

In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For a long time, they were built with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.

JB Design has been enclosing crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the proper way to seal them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will close off the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop bugs and animals from getting in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a series of floor jacks to lift sinking floors in your home.

Structural Foundation Repair

Foundation Settlement Repair Rescue

Your foundation is easily one of the most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also is the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, normally they will show themselves as stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows or doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.

Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at tracking down those problems. We can implement a repair solution that is for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a settling foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
