Crawl Space Solutions

Crawl Space Encapsulation in Rescue

In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For many years, they were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.

JB Design has been encapsulating crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to seal them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will close off the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent rodents and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sagging floors above the crawl space.

Structural Foundation Repair

Stair Step Crack Repair in Rescue

The foundation of your home is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, they will generally present themselves as stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.

Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at evaluating those problems. We can implement a repair product intended for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a sinking foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
