Crawl Space Encapsulation in Rescue

In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.

JB Design has been enclosing crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent critters and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors in your home.

Structural Foundation Repair

Stair Step Crack Repair in Rescue

Your foundation is easily one of the most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also is the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors and windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.

Thankfully, the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at noticing those problems. We can offer a repair solution designed for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a settling foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
