Crawl Space Solutions
In Rescue, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were constructed with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the weather and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been encapsulating crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will close off the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also prevent critters and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves as diagonal cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that the windows and doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem critical when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at noticing those problems. We can utilize a repair product designed for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a settling foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
