Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces and not basements. For a long time, they were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to half of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been enclosing crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to seal them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can close off the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also stop pests and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is protected, if you need it we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to level sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of the most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves as diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that your windows or doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem critical at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at evaluating these issues. We can implement a repair product that is for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a sloping foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
