Crawl Space Solutions

Crawl Space Jacks in Rescue

In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were built with open vents which was intended to increase air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Up to half of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.

JB Design has been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control high humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will close off the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop pests and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to repair sinking floors in your home.

Structural Foundation Repair

Foundation Cracks in Rescue

Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves as diagonal cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that the windows or doors will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.

Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at tracking down these issues. We can implement a repair solution intended for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a sinking foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
