Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces and not basements. For many years, they were created with vents which was intended to increase air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Up to half of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been encapsulating crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will close off the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. This will also stop pests and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, normally they will show themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in your brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows and doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for particular problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at evaluating these problems. We can offer a repair product intended for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a uneven foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
