Crawl Space Solutions
In Rescue, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces and not basements. For a long time, these were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been helping customers with their crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control the humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will seal the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop pests and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to lift sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, they will generally present themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows or doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at evaluating those problems. We can utilize a repair product designed for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a settling foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
