Crawl Space Solutions
In Rescue, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces and not basements. For many years, they were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been encapsulating crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can seal the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop rodents and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a system of floor jacks to repair sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, they will generally show themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that your doors or windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem critical when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at tracking down those problems. We can utilize a repair solution that is for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a sinking foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
