Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For a long time, these were created with vents which was intended to increase air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been helping customers with their crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the best way to close them off and control the humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will seal the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent critters and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a system of floor jacks to lift sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the building itself but it also is the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves as stair-step cracks in your brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that your doors will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at spotting those issues. We can offer a repair product designed for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a settling foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
