Crawl Space Solutions

Crawl Space Jacks in Rescue

In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with vents which was intended to increase air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to half of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the weather and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.

We have been dealing with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. This will also stop bugs and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a system of floor jacks to repair sloping floors above the crawl space.

Structural Foundation Repair

Foundation Cracks in Rescue

Your foundation is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves as stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that the doors and windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.

Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at tracking down these issues. We can implement a repair solution that is for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a uneven foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
