Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For a long time, these were built with open vents which was intended to increase air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to half of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been dealing with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will close off the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent rodents and animals from settling in your crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to lift sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves as diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows and doors will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at evaluating these issues. We can utilize a repair solution that is for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a sloping foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
