Crawl Space Solutions

Crawl Space Encapsulation in Rescue

In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For a long time, these were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.

JB Design has been encapsulating crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to seal them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will seal the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop critters and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sloping floors above the crawl space.

Structural Foundation Repair

Stair Step Crack Repair in Rescue

Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also is the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for particular problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.

Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at spotting these issues. We can offer a repair solution intended for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a sloping foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
