Crawl Space Solutions

Crawl Space Jacks in Rescue

In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were built with vents which was intended to increase air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which can foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.

JB Design has been enclosing crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control the humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can seal the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop rodents and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a series of floor jacks to level sloping floors above the crawl space.

Structural Foundation Repair

Foundation Cracks in Rescue

Your homes foundation is easily one of the most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves as stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors or windows will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.

It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at evaluating these issues. We can implement a repair solution designed for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a settling foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
