Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces and not basements. For many years, they were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Up to half of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been helping customers with their crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the best way to seal them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will seal the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also stop bugs and animals from getting in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to level sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors and windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at evaluating these issues. We can implement a repair product designed for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a sinking foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
