Crawl Space Solutions
In Rescue, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For many years, they were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been dealing with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can seal the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop rodents and animals from settling in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is protected, if you need it we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves as diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at tracking down those problems. We can offer a repair product designed for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a settling foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
