Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working on crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can close off the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop rodents and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is protected, if necessary we can install a series of floor jacks to repair sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also is the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves as stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows or doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem problematic at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems to determine if a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at tracking down these problems. We can implement a repair product designed for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a sinking foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
