Crawl Space Solutions
In Rescue, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been enclosing crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the best way to seal them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will close off the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent rodents and animals from settling in your crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of the most important parts. It not only supports the home itself but it also is the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves as stair-step cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem critical at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at spotting those problems. We can offer a repair product designed for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a uneven foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
