Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces and not basements. For a long time, these were constructed with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will seal the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also prevent critters and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to level sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves as stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that the doors and windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at spotting these problems. We can implement a repair product intended for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a settling foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
