Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For many years, these were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been helping customers with their crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can seal the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also stop pests and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a system of floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that the doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem problematic at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at noticing these issues. We can offer a repair product designed for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a settling foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
