Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were constructed with vents which was intended to increase air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been enclosing crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent bugs and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is protected, if necessary we can install a system of floor jacks to lift sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves as stair-step cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors and windows will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem problematic when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at evaluating those problems. We can utilize a repair solution intended for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a sinking foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
