Crawl Space Solutions

In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which can harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also prevent bugs and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is protected, if necessary we can install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair

The homes foundation is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also is the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, they will generally present themselves as diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that the doors or windows will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at spotting these issues. We can implement a repair solution that is for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a sloping foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
