Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Up to half of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to seal them off and control high humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will seal the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. This will also prevent critters and animals from settling in the crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, normally they will present themselves as stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that the windows and doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at tracking down those problems. We can utilize a repair product that is for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a uneven foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
