Crawl Space Solutions

In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For a long time, these were created with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which can foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been encapsulating crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can close off the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. This will also stop pests and animals from getting in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if necessary we can install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair

The foundation of your home is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that the doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem problematic when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at evaluating these problems. We can utilize a repair product that is for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a sinking foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
