Crawl Space Solutions
In Moon, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with open vents which was intended to increase air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been encapsulating crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can seal the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop bugs and animals from settling in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if necessary we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also is the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves as stair-step cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that the windows and doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at evaluating those issues. We can utilize a repair product intended for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a settling foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
