Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For a long time, they were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop rodents and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is protected, if you need it we will install a series of floor jacks to lift sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, they will generally show themselves as diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that the doors and windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at noticing these issues. We can utilize a repair solution that is for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a sinking foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
