Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which can foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop bugs and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to lift sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves as diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that the doors or windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at tracking down those issues. We can offer a repair solution intended for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a sloping foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
