Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas and not basements. For a long time, these were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to seal them off and control high humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can seal the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop critters and animals from moving in your crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, they will generally present themselves as diagonal cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that the windows or doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at tracking down these issues. We can implement a repair product that is for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a uneven foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
