Crawl Space Solutions
In Moon, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with open vents which was intended to increase air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which can foster the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been dealing with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will seal the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent critters and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only supports the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves as diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors or windows will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at spotting those issues. We can implement a repair solution intended for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a sloping foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
