Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For a long time, they were created with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been dealing with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent rodents and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to level sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, they will generally present themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors and windows will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at spotting these issues. We can offer a repair solution that is for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a sloping foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
