Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were built with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can close off the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. This will also prevent critters and animals from settling in your crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is protected, if you need it we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to lift sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, they will generally show themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors or windows will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem problematic when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at tracking down those problems. We can offer a repair solution designed for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a settling foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
