Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were constructed with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can close off the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent rodents and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, normally they will show themselves as diagonal cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at tracking down those issues. We can utilize a repair solution intended for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a uneven foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
