Crawl Space Solutions
In Moon, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For many years, these were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to half of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the weather and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can seal the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent rodents and animals from getting in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is protected, if you need it we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to repair sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, normally they will present themselves as stair-step cracks in your brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that your doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at noticing these problems. We can utilize a repair product designed for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a sinking foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
