Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For many years, they were built with vents which was intended to increase air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control high humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can seal the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop bugs and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is protected, if you need it we can install a system of floor jacks to lift sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also is the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves as stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that the doors or windows will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems to determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at evaluating those issues. We can implement a repair solution designed for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a sloping foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
