Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For a long time, they were created with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working with crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the proper way to seal them off and control high humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will seal the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop critters and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to level sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also is the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, normally they will show themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem problematic when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at spotting these issues. We can offer a repair product designed for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a uneven foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
