Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For a long time, they were constructed with vents which was intended to increase air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to half of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the weather and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been encapsulating crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent critters and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a series of floor jacks to level sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, they will generally show themselves as stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that the windows or doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at noticing those problems. We can implement a repair solution intended for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a sinking foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
