Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were created with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been helping customers with their crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the best way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can seal the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also prevent bugs and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also is the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that the windows and doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at spotting those issues. We can offer a repair product that is for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a settling foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
