Crawl Space Solutions
In Melfa, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were built with open vents which was intended to increase air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will seal the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop pests and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to lift sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, normally they will present themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that your doors and windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at tracking down these problems. We can offer a repair product that is for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a sloping foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
