Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were constructed with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to seal them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also prevent bugs and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is protected, if you need it we will install a series of floor jacks to lift sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of the most important parts. It not only supports the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in your brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors or windows will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at evaluating these problems. We can offer a repair solution designed for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a settling foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
