Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas and not basements. For many years, they were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will close off the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop rodents and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a system of floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves as diagonal cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows or doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for particular problems to determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at spotting these issues. We can offer a repair product intended for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a uneven foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
