Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces and not basements. For a long time, these were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to seal them off and control high humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will close off the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also prevent rodents and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to level sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that your doors and windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem critical when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at tracking down these problems. We can implement a repair solution intended for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a sloping foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
