Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas and not basements. For a long time, they were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Up to half of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can seal the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also prevent pests and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if necessary we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to level sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, they will generally present themselves as diagonal cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors or windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at spotting these problems. We can implement a repair solution designed for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a uneven foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
