Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For many years, they were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been helping customers with their crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can seal the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop bugs and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a series of floor jacks to level sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, normally they will show themselves as stair-step cracks in your brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that your doors and windows will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem problematic at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at spotting these problems. We can utilize a repair solution designed for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a sinking foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
