Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were constructed with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can seal the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop critters and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is protected, if necessary we can install a series of floor jacks to repair sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of the most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, normally they will present themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in your brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors or windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at noticing those problems. We can utilize a repair product intended for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a settling foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
