Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For many years, they were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which can harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to seal them off and control high humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can close off the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop rodents and animals from settling in your crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to repair sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, they will generally show themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at tracking down these issues. We can utilize a repair product that is for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a sinking foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
