Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For a long time, they were created with open vents which was intended to increase air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been helping customers with their crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to seal them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can seal the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. This will also stop pests and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we can install a series of floor jacks to lift sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also is the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, normally they will present themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that the windows or doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at evaluating these issues. We can implement a repair solution intended for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a uneven foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
