Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were built with vents which was intended to increase air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to half of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been enclosing crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can close off the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent bugs and animals from getting in the crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if you need it we can install a system of floor jacks to repair sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, they will generally show themselves as diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors and windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at evaluating those issues. We can offer a repair product intended for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a sinking foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
