Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can foster the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the weather and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to seal them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop critters and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to repair sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors or windows will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at noticing these problems. We can implement a repair solution that is for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a sinking foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
