Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with open vents which was intended to increase air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to half of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the weather and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control the humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent rodents and animals from moving in your crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of the most important parts. It not only supports the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves as stair-step cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at tracking down these issues. We can implement a repair product intended for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a settling foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
