Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were created with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to half of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will close off the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent bugs and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is protected, if you need it we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to repair sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that your doors and windows will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem problematic when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at tracking down these issues. We can implement a repair solution intended for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a settling foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
