Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For a long time, they were built with vents which was intended to increase air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to half of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been enclosing crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent bugs and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to level sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors and windows will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem critical when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at spotting those problems. We can implement a repair product intended for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a sinking foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
