Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For many years, they were created with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to half of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to seal them off and control high humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can close off the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop rodents and animals from settling in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to lift sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, normally they will show themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that the doors and windows will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at noticing those issues. We can utilize a repair product designed for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a uneven foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
