Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas and not basements. For a long time, these were created with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been enclosing crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will close off the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also stop bugs and animals from settling in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves as stair stepping cracks in your brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that your doors will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at spotting these problems. We can utilize a repair solution that is for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a settling foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
