Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas and not basements. For many years, these were built with vents which was intended to increase air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can seal the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent bugs and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we can install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, they will generally present themselves as diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows or doors will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem problematic when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at tracking down those issues. We can implement a repair product designed for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a settling foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
