Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces and not basements. For many years, they were built with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the weather and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can close off the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent critters and animals from settling in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is protected, if necessary we can install a system of floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves as stair stepping cracks in your brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that your doors or windows will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at spotting these problems. We can offer a repair product designed for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a settling foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
