Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For many years, these were built with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been enclosing crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will seal the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. This will also prevent rodents and animals from getting in the crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a system of floor jacks to lift sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, normally they will present themselves as stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows or doors will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at spotting these issues. We can utilize a repair product designed for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a uneven foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
