Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working on crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will seal the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent bugs and animals from getting in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to level sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of the most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, normally they will present themselves as stair-step cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that the windows and doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at tracking down those issues. We can utilize a repair product intended for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a sinking foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
