Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For a long time, these were constructed with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been dealing with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will close off the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop critters and animals from settling in your crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to repair sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of the most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, normally they will present themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that the windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at noticing these issues. We can utilize a repair solution intended for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a uneven foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
