Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas and not basements. For many years, these were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop critters and animals from moving in your crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves as stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows and doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at tracking down these issues. We can offer a repair product designed for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a sloping foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
