Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with vents which was intended to increase air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will seal the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent pests and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a system of floor jacks to repair sloping floors above the crawl space.
