Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were created with open vents which was intended to increase air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working on crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to seal them off and control high humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop pests and animals from getting in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a series of floor jacks to level sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, they will generally present themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that your doors or windows will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at spotting those issues. We can implement a repair solution intended for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a sinking foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
