Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For a long time, they were constructed with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can close off the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent rodents and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a series of floor jacks to lift sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors and windows will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at spotting those problems. We can offer a repair product designed for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a sloping foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
