Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas and not basements. For many years, they were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to half of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control the humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can close off the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also prevent pests and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a series of floor jacks to level sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also is the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves as stair stepping cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at evaluating these issues. We can offer a repair product designed for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a settling foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
