Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For a long time, they were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been dealing with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will seal the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent bugs and animals from settling in the crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to lift sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, normally they will show themselves as diagonal cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows and doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem problematic at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at tracking down those problems. We can implement a repair product intended for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a sinking foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
