Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control the humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will close off the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent rodents and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, normally they will show themselves as diagonal cracks in your brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that your doors or windows will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem problematic when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at noticing those issues. We can implement a repair product that is for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a sinking foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
