Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces and not basements. For a long time, these were built with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Up to half of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the weather and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control high humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will seal the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent rodents and animals from settling in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, normally they will present themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that the windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at evaluating these issues. We can implement a repair product that is for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a settling foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
