Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were created with open vents which was intended to increase air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been working on crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to close them off and control high humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent pests and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a series of floor jacks to repair sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that your windows will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at spotting these problems. We can offer a repair solution that is for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a sinking foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
