Crawl Space Solutions

In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces and not basements. For a long time, they were constructed with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been encapsulating crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to seal them off and control the humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will seal the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop critters and animals from settling in the crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is protected, if you need it we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to level sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair

The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only supports the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves as stair-step cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors or windows will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at spotting those problems. We can implement a repair product that is for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a sloping foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
