Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For many years, they were created with vents which was intended to increase air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can seal the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also stop critters and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows and doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem problematic at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at evaluating these issues. We can utilize a repair solution that is for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a uneven foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
