Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to half of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can close off the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop pests and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also is the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that the windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at noticing those issues. We can utilize a repair product that is for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a settling foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
