Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Up to half of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can seal the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also prevent pests and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we can install a system of floor jacks to level sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, they will generally show themselves as diagonal cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that the windows or doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for particular problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at evaluating those issues. We can utilize a repair product intended for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a uneven foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
