Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas and not basements. For a long time, these were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been helping customers with their crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can close off the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. This will also prevent critters and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is protected, if necessary we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to level sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, they will generally present themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem critical at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at tracking down these problems. We can implement a repair product that is for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a sinking foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
