Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were created with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been enclosing crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the proper way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can seal the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop rodents and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is protected, if necessary we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to level sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, they will generally present themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in your brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that your windows and doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at tracking down those problems. We can utilize a repair product intended for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a sinking foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
