Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to half of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the proper way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will close off the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop pests and animals from moving in your crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to repair sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem problematic when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at tracking down those problems. We can implement a repair product intended for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a settling foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
