Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For a long time, they were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to half of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been enclosing crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to seal them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will close off the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop pests and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to repair sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also is the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, they will generally present themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows and doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem problematic at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at spotting these issues. We can offer a repair solution intended for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a sinking foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
