Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas and not basements. For a long time, these were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the weather and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control the humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent pests and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to level sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves as diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that your windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at noticing those problems. We can implement a repair solution that is for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a sloping foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
