Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For many years, these were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the best way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will seal the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. This will also stop critters and animals from settling in the crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to lift sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, they will generally show themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that your doors or windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at spotting those problems. We can utilize a repair product that is for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a settling foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
