Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been helping customers with their crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the proper way to close them off and control high humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent bugs and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to repair sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of the most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, they will generally show themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that the doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at tracking down those issues. We can offer a repair product designed for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a settling foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
