Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For many years, these were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Up to half of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to seal them off and control high humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can seal the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent rodents and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to repair sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, they will generally show themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors or windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at tracking down these issues. We can offer a repair product intended for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a sinking foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
