Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were constructed with vents which was intended to increase air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will close off the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. This will also prevent rodents and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a system of floor jacks to level sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves as diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that your windows or doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem problematic at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at tracking down these problems. We can implement a repair product intended for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a sloping foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
