Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been dealing with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent rodents and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to level sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that your doors and windows will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at evaluating these problems. We can implement a repair product intended for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a settling foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
