Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For many years, they were created with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working on crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent bugs and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is protected, if necessary we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to level sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, normally they will present themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem problematic when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at tracking down these problems. We can implement a repair solution intended for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a sloping foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
