Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For a long time, they were built with open vents which was intended to increase air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to seal them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent rodents and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a series of floor jacks to lift sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, they will generally present themselves as stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that the doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at spotting those issues. We can offer a repair product intended for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a sloping foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
