Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces and not basements. For a long time, these were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to seal them off and control the humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will seal the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop pests and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if you need it we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also is the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves as stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows and doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at spotting these problems. We can offer a repair product intended for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a uneven foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
