Crawl Space Solutions
In Jamestown, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For a long time, these were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control high humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will close off the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop rodents and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves as stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem critical when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at spotting those problems. We can implement a repair solution designed for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a sloping foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
