Crawl Space Solutions
In Jamestown, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the weather and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been encapsulating crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control high humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will seal the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent pests and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to level sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, they will generally show themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that the doors or windows will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem problematic at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at tracking down those problems. We can implement a repair product that is for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a settling foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
