Crawl Space Solutions

In Jamestown, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to seal them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can close off the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. This will also prevent bugs and animals from getting in the crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is protected, if necessary we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to level sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair

The foundation of your home is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves as stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that the doors and windows will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem problematic when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at noticing these issues. We can offer a repair product designed for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a uneven foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
