Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with vents which was intended to increase air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working on crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will seal the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent rodents and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to lift sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, they will generally present themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows and doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at noticing those issues. We can implement a repair product designed for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a uneven foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
