Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were created with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will close off the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. This will also stop pests and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a system of floor jacks to repair sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, they will generally present themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that the windows will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem problematic when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at tracking down those problems. We can utilize a repair solution intended for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a uneven foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
