Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas and not basements. For a long time, they were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been enclosing crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop bugs and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a system of floor jacks to repair sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of the most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also is the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves as diagonal cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that the doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem critical when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at spotting these issues. We can offer a repair product intended for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a settling foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
