Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For many years, they were built with vents which was intended to increase air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control the humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will seal the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop pests and animals from getting in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is protected, if you need it we will install a system of floor jacks to level sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of the most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves as diagonal cracks in your brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors or windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at noticing these issues. We can utilize a repair product intended for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a sloping foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
