Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For many years, these were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the weather and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been dealing with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will seal the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop rodents and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to lift sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that the doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem problematic when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at noticing those problems. We can implement a repair product intended for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a settling foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
