Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been helping customers with their crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the proper way to seal them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop pests and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves as diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors and windows will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at tracking down these problems. We can implement a repair product that is for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a sloping foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
