Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the weather and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been encapsulating crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to seal them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will close off the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop bugs and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to repair sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in your brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at noticing these problems. We can implement a repair solution that is for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a uneven foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
