Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were built with vents which was intended to increase air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working on crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will seal the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent critters and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is protected, if you need it we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves as stair stepping cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that your doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at noticing those issues. We can offer a repair solution designed for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a settling foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
