Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For a long time, they were built with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which can foster the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent critters and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, normally they will show themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem problematic at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at noticing those problems. We can offer a repair solution designed for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a uneven foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
