Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For a long time, these were created with vents which was intended to increase air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the weather and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been helping customers with their crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop pests and animals from settling in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to lift sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, normally they will show themselves as diagonal cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that the doors and windows will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem problematic when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at noticing those problems. We can offer a repair product that is for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a settling foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
