Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which can foster the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control the humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can seal the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also stop pests and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if necessary we can install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, normally they will show themselves as stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows or doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem critical at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at tracking down these issues. We can utilize a repair product designed for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a sinking foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
