Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For a long time, these were created with vents which was intended to increase air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the weather and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will close off the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop bugs and animals from settling in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a system of floor jacks to lift sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows and doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for particular problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at tracking down these issues. We can utilize a repair product designed for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a sinking foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
