Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas and not basements. For many years, these were constructed with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Up to half of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been encapsulating crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will close off the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop rodents and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to level sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also is the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, normally they will show themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that the doors or windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem critical when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at noticing these issues. We can implement a repair solution designed for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a sloping foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
