Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For many years, these were built with open vents which was intended to increase air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been dealing with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control high humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can close off the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop critters and animals from getting in the crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to lift sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also is the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves as stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors or windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem critical at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at spotting these issues. We can implement a repair solution intended for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a sloping foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
