Crawl Space Solutions
In Hartfield, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working on crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to seal them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop pests and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, they will generally show themselves as diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that your doors will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at tracking down those issues. We can implement a repair product designed for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a sloping foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
