Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces and not basements. For a long time, they were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to half of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been dealing with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can seal the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent bugs and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is protected, if you need it we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to repair sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that your doors or windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at noticing those issues. We can utilize a repair solution designed for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a sinking foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
