Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with open vents which was intended to increase air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Up to half of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been enclosing crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to seal them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can seal the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop critters and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of the most important parts. It not only supports the home itself but it also is the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, normally they will show themselves as diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem problematic when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at noticing these problems. We can utilize a repair product designed for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a settling foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
