Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been enclosing crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control high humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will seal the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop rodents and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is protected, if you need it we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to repair sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also is the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that your windows or doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at tracking down these problems. We can utilize a repair product designed for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a sinking foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
