Crawl Space Solutions
In Hartfield, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been enclosing crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will close off the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. This will also prevent critters and animals from getting in the crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to lift sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves as diagonal cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that the doors or windows will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at spotting these issues. We can implement a repair product intended for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a settling foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
