Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can close off the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent bugs and animals from getting in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a series of floor jacks to lift sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors and windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at evaluating these problems. We can utilize a repair product intended for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a uneven foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
