Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For many years, they were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been helping customers with their crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the proper way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will close off the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. This will also prevent rodents and animals from settling in your crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a system of floor jacks to lift sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves as stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at tracking down these issues. We can utilize a repair product designed for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a uneven foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
