Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For many years, they were built with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Up to half of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been enclosing crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can close off the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. This will also stop pests and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, they will generally present themselves as diagonal cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that the windows or doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at evaluating those problems. We can offer a repair product designed for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a sinking foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
