Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For a long time, these were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working on crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can seal the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop bugs and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves as stair-step cracks in your brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that your windows or doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at tracking down those problems. We can implement a repair product intended for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a uneven foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
