Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to close them off and control the humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can close off the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also prevent critters and animals from settling in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we can install a series of floor jacks to repair sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also is the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, they will generally show themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in your brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that your doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem problematic at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at evaluating these problems. We can utilize a repair solution intended for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a uneven foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
