Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For a long time, they were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will seal the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop rodents and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to level sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of the most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, they will generally show themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that the windows will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at noticing those issues. We can utilize a repair product designed for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a settling foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
