Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For many years, these were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the best way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will seal the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent critters and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if you need it we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to repair sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also is the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, they will generally present themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows and doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at tracking down these issues. We can implement a repair solution intended for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a sloping foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
