Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control high humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will close off the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent rodents and animals from settling in your crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, they will generally present themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors or windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at tracking down these issues. We can implement a repair product designed for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a sinking foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
