Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been dealing with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to seal them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. This will also stop critters and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to level sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that the windows and doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at tracking down those problems. We can utilize a repair product intended for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a settling foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
