Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For a long time, these were created with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been dealing with crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the best way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can seal the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent rodents and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to level sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also is the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves as diagonal cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that the windows and doors will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem problematic when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at evaluating these issues. We can implement a repair solution intended for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a settling foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
