Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For many years, they were built with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been dealing with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will seal the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop bugs and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to level sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, they will generally present themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors and windows will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at noticing those problems. We can implement a repair solution designed for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a settling foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
