Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces and not basements. For many years, these were created with open vents which was intended to increase air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been encapsulating crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also prevent rodents and animals from settling in your crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if you need it we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to lift sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, they will generally present themselves as stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that the doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at tracking down those issues. We can utilize a repair product that is for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a sinking foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
