Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces and not basements. For many years, they were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can close off the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. This will also prevent pests and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a series of floor jacks to lift sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, they will generally show themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at evaluating those issues. We can utilize a repair solution intended for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a uneven foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
