Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas and not basements. For many years, they were built with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the weather and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been enclosing crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the proper way to seal them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can close off the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also prevent critters and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is protected, if necessary we can install a series of floor jacks to level sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves as diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows and doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at tracking down these issues. We can implement a repair product designed for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a sinking foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
