Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas and not basements. For many years, they were constructed with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to half of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to seal them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will seal the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent pests and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a series of floor jacks to level sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only supports the home itself but it also is the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem problematic at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at tracking down these problems. We can implement a repair solution that is for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a uneven foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
