Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces and not basements. For a long time, these were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been enclosing crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control the humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will seal the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop critters and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to lift sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, they will generally show themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at noticing those problems. We can offer a repair solution designed for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a sloping foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
