Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been dealing with crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the proper way to seal them off and control the humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will close off the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent critters and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves as stair-step cracks in your brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that your windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem problematic when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at evaluating those problems. We can implement a repair product intended for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a sinking foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
