Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working with crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the best way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will seal the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent rodents and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is protected, if you need it we will install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, normally they will present themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors or windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at spotting those problems. We can offer a repair product that is for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a sloping foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
