Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For many years, these were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control high humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will seal the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent pests and animals from getting in the crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is protected, if you need it we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to level sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, they will generally show themselves as stair-step cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that the windows or doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem problematic at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at spotting these problems. We can utilize a repair product that is for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a settling foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
