Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been enclosing crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the proper way to close them off and control high humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can close off the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. This will also prevent critters and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is protected, if necessary we can install a series of floor jacks to level sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, they will generally present themselves as diagonal cracks in your brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that your windows and doors will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at spotting these problems. We can implement a repair solution that is for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a sinking foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
