Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For many years, these were constructed with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been enclosing crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control the humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will close off the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent pests and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of the most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, they will generally present themselves as diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that your windows and doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at spotting those problems. We can offer a repair product intended for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a settling foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
