Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the weather and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can seal the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent critters and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if you need it we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to repair sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that your windows or doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at spotting these problems. We can implement a repair solution that is for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a sinking foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
