Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For many years, they were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control high humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will close off the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also prevent rodents and animals from moving in your crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to repair sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of the most important parts. It not only supports the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, normally they will show themselves as stair stepping cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that your doors or windows will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for particular problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at noticing these problems. We can implement a repair product that is for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a sinking foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
