Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For many years, these were built with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working with crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can close off the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent rodents and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if you need it we can install a series of floor jacks to lift sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also is the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves as stair stepping cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that your windows and doors will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem problematic at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at tracking down those problems. We can utilize a repair solution intended for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a settling foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
