Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas and not basements. For many years, these were constructed with vents which was intended to increase air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can close off the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop pests and animals from settling in your crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we can install a system of floor jacks to repair sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the building itself but it also is the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in your brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows and doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem problematic when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for particular problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at evaluating these problems. We can implement a repair product intended for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a settling foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
