Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For a long time, these were constructed with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working on crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the proper way to seal them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will seal the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop bugs and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to repair sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that the windows and doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at evaluating these issues. We can offer a repair product that is for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a sloping foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
