Crawl Space Solutions
In Hampton Roads, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For a long time, these were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space protected from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop rodents and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a system of floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that the windows and doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for particular problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at noticing these problems. We can implement a repair solution that is for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a settling foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
