Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been helping customers with their crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can close off the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop rodents and animals from settling in your crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if you need it we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to level sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, normally they will show themselves as stair stepping cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that your windows or doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems to determine if a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at spotting those issues. We can implement a repair solution designed for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a uneven foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
