Crawl Space Solutions
In Hampton Roads, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were constructed with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which can foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been helping customers with their crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to seal them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can close off the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop critters and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a system of floor jacks to level sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, normally they will show themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that the doors will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem problematic when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at spotting these problems. We can offer a repair product designed for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a sinking foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
