Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For many years, they were built with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can seal the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also prevent pests and animals from settling in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we can install a system of floor jacks to lift sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the building itself but it also is the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, normally they will present themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows and doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at evaluating those issues. We can utilize a repair solution intended for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a settling foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
