Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been helping customers with their crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. This will also prevent rodents and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to lift sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also is the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that your windows and doors will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem problematic at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for particular problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at evaluating these issues. We can implement a repair solution designed for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a settling foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
