Crawl Space Solutions
In Hampton Roads, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to half of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been dealing with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will seal the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop critters and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to repair sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, they will generally present themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that the windows or doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at noticing those problems. We can utilize a repair product that is for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a settling foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
