Crawl Space Solutions

Crawl Space Encapsulation in Hampton Roads

In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can foster the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the weather and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.

JB Design has been dealing with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will close off the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop pests and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a system of floor jacks to repair sloping floors in your home.

Structural Foundation Repair

Foundation Settlement Repair Hampton Roads

Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, they will generally show themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that the windows and doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.

Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at evaluating those issues. We can implement a repair product designed for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a uneven foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
