Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will seal the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop critters and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to lift sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of the most important parts. It not only supports the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, they will generally present themselves as stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that the windows or doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at spotting these problems. We can utilize a repair solution designed for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a sinking foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
