Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been enclosing crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent bugs and animals from moving in your crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is protected, if necessary we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also is the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, they will generally present themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in your brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that your windows and doors will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at tracking down those issues. We can implement a repair product that is for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a sloping foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
