Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas and not basements. For many years, these were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can foster the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can seal the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop pests and animals from getting in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is protected, if you need it we can install a system of floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves as diagonal cracks in your brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors or windows will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at noticing those problems. We can implement a repair solution that is for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a settling foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
