Crawl Space Solutions
In Hampton, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were created with vents which was intended to increase air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the best way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. This will also prevent pests and animals from settling in the crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is protected, if you need it we can install a series of floor jacks to lift sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in your brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that your doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem problematic when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for particular problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at evaluating these issues. We can offer a repair product that is for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a settling foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
