Crawl Space Solutions
In Hampton, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with vents which was intended to increase air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will close off the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop bugs and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves as stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows or doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem problematic at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at evaluating these problems. We can offer a repair solution designed for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a sloping foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
