Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to seal them off and control high humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. This will also prevent pests and animals from settling in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, they will generally show themselves as diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors and windows will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems to determine if a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at tracking down these problems. We can utilize a repair solution that is for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a settling foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
