Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For a long time, these were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will seal the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent bugs and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to level sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of the most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that the windows will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at noticing those issues. We can implement a repair solution designed for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a settling foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
