Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For many years, these were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can close off the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. This will also prevent bugs and animals from moving in your crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if you need it we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that the windows or doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at evaluating those issues. We can offer a repair solution that is for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a uneven foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
