Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For a long time, these were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can foster the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been encapsulating crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. This will also prevent bugs and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is protected, if you need it we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves as diagonal cracks in your brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at evaluating these issues. We can utilize a repair solution intended for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a settling foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
