Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For a long time, they were constructed with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been helping customers with their crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will close off the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop pests and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to repair sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, normally they will show themselves as diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that the doors or windows will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at tracking down those problems. We can implement a repair product intended for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a sinking foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
