Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which can foster the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the weather and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will seal the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also stop rodents and animals from settling in your crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a system of floor jacks to level sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of the most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also is the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors and windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at tracking down those problems. We can offer a repair solution that is for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a sinking foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
