Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For many years, they were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can seal the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop bugs and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we can install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, they will generally show themselves as stair-step cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that the doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at tracking down those issues. We can offer a repair product designed for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a sloping foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
