Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were created with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been enclosing crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to seal them off and control the humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will close off the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop pests and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that the windows and doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at evaluating those problems. We can offer a repair product intended for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a uneven foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
