Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For a long time, they were constructed with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the proper way to seal them off and control high humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also prevent rodents and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we can install a system of floor jacks to lift sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves as diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors and windows will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem critical when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at noticing those issues. We can offer a repair product designed for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a settling foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
