Crawl Space Solutions
In Hampton, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can seal the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also prevent rodents and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only supports the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that your doors or windows will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem problematic when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at evaluating those issues. We can implement a repair product designed for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a sinking foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
