Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas and not basements. For many years, they were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been encapsulating crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the proper way to seal them off and control the humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can close off the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop pests and animals from getting in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is closed off, if you need it we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in your brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that your windows or doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for particular problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at spotting these issues. We can offer a repair product that is for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a sloping foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
