Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For a long time, these were constructed with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been dealing with crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the proper way to seal them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can seal the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent bugs and animals from getting in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, they will generally show themselves as stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at spotting these issues. We can offer a repair product intended for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a settling foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
