Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been enclosing crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to seal them off and control the humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will seal the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop bugs and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves as stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that the doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem critical at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at noticing those issues. We can implement a repair solution designed for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a sinking foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
