Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces and not basements. For a long time, these were created with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can close off the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent critters and animals from settling in your crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to lift sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only supports the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, they will generally show themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that the windows will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at spotting these problems. We can offer a repair product designed for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a settling foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
