Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces and not basements. For a long time, they were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to half of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been encapsulating crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to close them off and control the humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can seal the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent rodents and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to repair sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the building itself but it also is the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves as stair stepping cracks in your brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors or windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem problematic when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at evaluating those problems. We can implement a repair product intended for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a uneven foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
