Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been encapsulating crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the best way to close them off and control the humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can seal the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop bugs and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a series of floor jacks to repair sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, they will generally present themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that your doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at tracking down these problems. We can implement a repair product designed for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a sloping foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
