Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For many years, these were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been encapsulating crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to seal them off and control the humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can seal the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop rodents and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to level sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, they will generally present themselves as stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that the doors and windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem problematic at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at spotting these issues. We can offer a repair solution designed for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a sloping foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
