Crawl Space Solutions
In Hampton, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For many years, these were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will seal the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent critters and animals from settling in your crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a system of floor jacks to lift sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, normally they will present themselves as stair stepping cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at evaluating those issues. We can implement a repair solution intended for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a settling foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
