Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were constructed with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been enclosing crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control the humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will seal the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also stop bugs and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a system of floor jacks to stabilize sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, normally they will show themselves as diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that your doors or windows will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem problematic when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at evaluating those problems. We can utilize a repair solution intended for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a settling foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
