Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were created with open vents which was intended to increase air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working with crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can close off the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent rodents and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if you need it we can install a system of floor jacks to lift sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, normally they will show themselves as diagonal cracks in your brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that your windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem problematic at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at tracking down those issues. We can utilize a repair product designed for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a uneven foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
