Crawl Space Solutions
In Hampton, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can close off the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop bugs and animals from settling in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to repair sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that your doors and windows will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem problematic at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at noticing those issues. We can implement a repair product that is for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a uneven foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
