Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were constructed with vents which was intended to increase air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been helping customers with their crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent pests and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to lift sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also is the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, normally they will present themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in your brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that your windows and doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at evaluating those issues. We can implement a repair solution intended for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a sloping foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
