Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For many years, they were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been enclosing crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop critters and animals from moving in your crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if you need it we can install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors and windows will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at noticing these problems. We can utilize a repair solution designed for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a sloping foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
