Crawl Space Solutions
In Hallieford, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been enclosing crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop bugs and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to level sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that the windows or doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at tracking down these issues. We can implement a repair solution that is for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a settling foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
