Crawl Space Solutions
In Hallieford, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to seal them off and control high humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will close off the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent pests and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a series of floor jacks to repair sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves as diagonal cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows and doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at evaluating those problems. We can implement a repair product that is for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a sloping foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
