Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been dealing with crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will close off the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. This will also stop pests and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if you need it we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows or doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at noticing these issues. We can offer a repair product that is for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a settling foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
