Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For many years, these were constructed with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will seal the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop rodents and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to level sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in your brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that your windows will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at evaluating these issues. We can offer a repair product intended for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a settling foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
