Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For many years, they were built with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been working on crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can seal the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent rodents and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves as diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that your windows or doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems to determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at evaluating those issues. We can utilize a repair product that is for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a settling foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
