Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas and not basements. For a long time, these were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been enclosing crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop critters and animals from settling in your crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a series of floor jacks to repair sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only supports the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that your windows and doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at spotting these issues. We can offer a repair product that is for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a sinking foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
