Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been encapsulating crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control the humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can seal the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent critters and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we can install a system of floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of the most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves as stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors and windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem problematic at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at spotting these issues. We can utilize a repair product designed for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a settling foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
