Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were created with open vents which was intended to increase air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop rodents and animals from getting in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we can install a series of floor jacks to lift sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the home itself but it also is the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, normally they will show themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows or doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at noticing those problems. We can utilize a repair solution intended for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a sloping foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
