Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces and not basements. For many years, they were constructed with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been working with crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also stop pests and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is closed off, if you need it we can install a system of floor jacks to level sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also is the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, they will generally present themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that your doors or windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem problematic at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at tracking down these problems. We can offer a repair solution designed for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a uneven foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
