Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For many years, these were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been encapsulating crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will seal the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent critters and animals from moving in your crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if you need it we will install a series of floor jacks to lift sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, they will generally show themselves as stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors and windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem critical at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems to determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at evaluating these problems. We can implement a repair solution that is for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a sinking foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
