Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces and not basements. For many years, they were constructed with vents which was intended to increase air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been encapsulating crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will close off the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also prevent bugs and animals from settling in the crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to repair sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves as stair-step cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors and windows will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at tracking down those issues. We can offer a repair solution intended for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a uneven foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
