Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For many years, they were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which can foster the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been helping customers with their crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will close off the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent rodents and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to lift sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also is the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, normally they will show themselves as diagonal cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors or windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at spotting these issues. We can utilize a repair product that is for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a settling foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
