Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces and not basements. For a long time, these were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which can harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to half of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will close off the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. This will also prevent critters and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a system of floor jacks to lift sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows or doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at evaluating these problems. We can implement a repair product intended for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a sloping foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
