Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces and not basements. For a long time, they were built with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to half of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been encapsulating crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control the humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can seal the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop rodents and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if necessary we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also is the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that the doors or windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at tracking down these problems. We can offer a repair solution that is for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a sinking foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
