Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can seal the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop critters and animals from moving in your crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if you need it we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, they will generally present themselves as diagonal cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that the windows and doors will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at evaluating those problems. We can implement a repair solution designed for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a uneven foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
