Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For a long time, they were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the proper way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent rodents and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a series of floor jacks to lift sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, normally they will present themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at noticing these problems. We can utilize a repair product intended for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a sinking foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
