Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which can foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to half of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will seal the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop rodents and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of the most important parts. It not only supports the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that your windows and doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at noticing these problems. We can implement a repair product that is for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a settling foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
