Crawl Space Solutions
In Grimstead, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were constructed with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can foster the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been helping customers with their crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will seal the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent rodents and animals from settling in the crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a system of floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, they will generally show themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that your doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at evaluating those problems. We can utilize a repair product that is for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a uneven foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
