Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For many years, they were created with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been encapsulating crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can seal the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent bugs and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to lift sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only supports the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, normally they will show themselves as stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that the windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at evaluating these issues. We can offer a repair solution that is for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a settling foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
