Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been enclosing crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. This will also prevent rodents and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of the most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, they will generally present themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in your brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors or windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at tracking down those problems. We can implement a repair product designed for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a sloping foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
