Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can foster the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to seal them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will seal the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent critters and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a system of floor jacks to level sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of the most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also is the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, normally they will present themselves as diagonal cracks in your brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at noticing these problems. We can implement a repair solution that is for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a sinking foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
