Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For a long time, these were built with vents which was intended to increase air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been dealing with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to seal them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can seal the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent critters and animals from settling in your crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we can install a system of floor jacks to repair sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the home itself but it also is the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, normally they will show themselves as stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that the windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at evaluating these issues. We can implement a repair product intended for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a sinking foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
