Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas and not basements. For many years, they were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working with crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the proper way to seal them off and control the humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will close off the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent pests and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to level sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, normally they will present themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors or windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at tracking down those issues. We can implement a repair product designed for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a uneven foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
