Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to half of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will seal the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. This will also stop pests and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, they will generally show themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in your brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows and doors will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at evaluating these issues. We can implement a repair solution that is for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a sloping foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
