Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to seal them off and control the humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will seal the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop pests and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a system of floor jacks to repair sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also is the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, they will generally present themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows and doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem problematic at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems to determine if a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at noticing those problems. We can utilize a repair solution intended for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a uneven foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
