Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For many years, they were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to half of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been dealing with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to seal them off and control the humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will seal the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent bugs and animals from moving in your crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves as stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows or doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at spotting those issues. We can implement a repair solution designed for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a settling foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
