Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been enclosing crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can seal the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent critters and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a system of floor jacks to repair sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also is the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves as diagonal cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors or windows will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at noticing these issues. We can utilize a repair product that is for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a sloping foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
