Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to half of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to seal them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. This will also prevent pests and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is protected, if you need it we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to repair sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also is the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves as stair-step cracks in your brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that your doors or windows will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at tracking down those issues. We can offer a repair product designed for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a sloping foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
