Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For many years, they were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can foster the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been helping customers with their crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will close off the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop critters and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to lift sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves as diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem critical at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at tracking down these issues. We can implement a repair product intended for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a settling foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
