Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were constructed with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the weather and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can seal the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent critters and animals from moving in your crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a series of floor jacks to repair sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, they will generally present themselves as stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors or windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at evaluating those problems. We can utilize a repair product that is for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a settling foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
