Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas and not basements. For many years, these were created with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the weather and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to seal them off and control high humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will seal the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also stop bugs and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is protected, if you need it we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to level sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors or windows will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at noticing these issues. We can utilize a repair product designed for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a sloping foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
