Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For many years, these were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to half of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can seal the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent critters and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to level sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves as stair-step cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that your doors or windows will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at tracking down these issues. We can offer a repair product designed for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a sinking foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
