Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For a long time, these were constructed with vents which was intended to increase air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been encapsulating crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will close off the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent bugs and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of the most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves as stair-step cracks in your brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that your doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at noticing these issues. We can utilize a repair solution that is for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a sloping foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
