Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For many years, they were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been helping customers with their crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control the humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will close off the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent rodents and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to lift sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also is the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves as diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that your windows or doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for particular problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at tracking down these issues. We can implement a repair solution intended for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a sinking foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
