Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been helping customers with their crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent critters and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves as stair-step cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that your doors or windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem problematic at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems to determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at spotting these issues. We can implement a repair product intended for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a uneven foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
