Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For a long time, they were constructed with vents which was intended to increase air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also stop bugs and animals from settling in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a system of floor jacks to level sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that your windows or doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at spotting these problems. We can implement a repair product that is for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a sloping foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
