Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to seal them off and control the humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will seal the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also prevent rodents and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to lift sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves as stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that the doors or windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem problematic when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at evaluating those issues. We can offer a repair product designed for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a uneven foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
