Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were created with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to half of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control the humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will close off the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent critters and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a system of floor jacks to stabilize sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also is the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves as stair stepping cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at spotting these problems. We can offer a repair solution designed for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a sloping foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
