Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces and not basements. For many years, these were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to seal them off and control high humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. This will also prevent rodents and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a system of floor jacks to level sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, normally they will present themselves as stair-step cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows or doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at evaluating these issues. We can offer a repair solution designed for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a sinking foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
