Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces and not basements. For many years, they were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which can harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to half of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent rodents and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to repair sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves as stair-step cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that the doors or windows will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem problematic at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at evaluating these problems. We can utilize a repair solution that is for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a uneven foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
