Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces and not basements. For a long time, these were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to seal them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent critters and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a series of floor jacks to repair sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only supports the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that the doors or windows will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem problematic when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at noticing these problems. We can utilize a repair solution that is for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a sloping foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
