Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For a long time, they were created with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been encapsulating crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can close off the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop bugs and animals from getting in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if you need it we can install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves as diagonal cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that the windows will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at tracking down these issues. We can implement a repair product that is for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a uneven foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
