Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been dealing with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to seal them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop rodents and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves as stair-step cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that the doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem problematic at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at tracking down those problems. We can utilize a repair solution designed for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a uneven foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
