Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to half of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been encapsulating crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will seal the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent bugs and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a system of floor jacks to stabilize sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, they will generally present themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in your brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that your doors or windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at tracking down these issues. We can implement a repair product that is for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a sinking foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
