Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For many years, these were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been dealing with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will seal the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent critters and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to level sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves as diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that your doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at spotting these issues. We can implement a repair solution intended for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a settling foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
