Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were constructed with vents which was intended to increase air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which can foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been dealing with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control the humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will seal the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent rodents and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of the most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in your brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that your windows and doors will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at tracking down those issues. We can offer a repair solution intended for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a uneven foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
