Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For many years, these were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the weather and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been dealing with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will close off the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop critters and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also is the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, they will generally show themselves as stair stepping cracks in your brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at tracking down these problems. We can implement a repair solution that is for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a settling foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
