Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For a long time, they were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to half of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will seal the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. This will also prevent pests and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to lift sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, they will generally present themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors or windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at spotting those issues. We can utilize a repair solution that is for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a sloping foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
