Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For a long time, these were created with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been encapsulating crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control the humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will close off the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also prevent bugs and animals from settling in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a system of floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that the windows or doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at evaluating these issues. We can utilize a repair product designed for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a sinking foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
