Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been enclosing crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent pests and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves as diagonal cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that the windows or doors will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at tracking down these issues. We can offer a repair solution intended for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a settling foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
