Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For a long time, these were built with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which can foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been helping customers with their crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the best way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will close off the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also stop pests and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that the windows and doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem problematic when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems to determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at noticing those problems. We can utilize a repair solution designed for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a sinking foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
