Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For a long time, they were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent rodents and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is protected, if necessary we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the building itself but it also is the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, normally they will present themselves as stair-step cracks in your brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that your windows and doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems to determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at spotting these issues. We can implement a repair solution intended for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a sloping foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
