Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For a long time, these were created with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which can foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been encapsulating crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to seal them off and control high humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can seal the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent pests and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we can install a series of floor jacks to repair sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves as stair-step cracks in your brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows or doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at evaluating these issues. We can implement a repair solution that is for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a settling foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
