Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For a long time, they were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to half of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the weather and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been dealing with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control the humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will close off the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. This will also prevent rodents and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is protected, if you need it we will install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves as stair-step cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that your doors or windows will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem problematic when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems to determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at spotting those issues. We can implement a repair product that is for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a settling foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
