Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were created with open vents which was intended to increase air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will seal the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent bugs and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also is the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, they will generally present themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that the windows and doors will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at noticing these problems. We can offer a repair product intended for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a sinking foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
