Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been encapsulating crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can seal the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. This will also stop pests and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to level sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, normally they will present themselves as diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at evaluating those problems. We can implement a repair product that is for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a sinking foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
