Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were created with vents which was intended to increase air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to half of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to seal them off and control the humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. This will also stop critters and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also is the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves as stair-step cracks in your brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that your windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at tracking down those issues. We can offer a repair solution intended for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a sloping foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
