Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to seal them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can close off the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. This will also prevent bugs and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we can install a series of floor jacks to repair sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors and windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at tracking down those issues. We can offer a repair solution that is for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a settling foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
