Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were constructed with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been dealing with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent critters and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to repair sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, they will generally present themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that the doors and windows will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem problematic when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at evaluating those issues. We can utilize a repair solution intended for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a sloping foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
