Crawl Space Solutions
In Fort Monroe, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas and not basements. For a long time, they were created with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been working on crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent rodents and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if you need it we can install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, normally they will show themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at tracking down these issues. We can implement a repair product that is for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a sloping foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
