Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces and not basements. For many years, these were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will seal the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent bugs and animals from getting in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the home itself but it also is the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, normally they will present themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows or doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem problematic at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at evaluating these problems. We can offer a repair product intended for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a uneven foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
