Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were built with vents which was intended to increase air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can foster the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to seal them off and control high humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will close off the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent pests and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to lift sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves as stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that the doors or windows will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at spotting these problems. We can offer a repair solution intended for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a sinking foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
