Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces and not basements. For many years, they were built with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the proper way to close them off and control the humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can close off the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent critters and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is protected, if you need it we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to repair sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves as diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows and doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems to determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at spotting those issues. We can offer a repair product that is for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a sinking foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
