Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For many years, these were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working with crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the proper way to seal them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will close off the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop critters and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a system of floor jacks to lift sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, they will generally show themselves as stair stepping cracks in your brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at spotting those issues. We can implement a repair product designed for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a sinking foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
