Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces and not basements. For many years, they were constructed with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been encapsulating crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will close off the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent bugs and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also is the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves as diagonal cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that the doors will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at spotting those issues. We can utilize a repair product intended for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a sloping foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
