Crawl Space Solutions
In Fort Monroe, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For many years, they were built with vents which was intended to increase air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been encapsulating crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will seal the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop bugs and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that your windows will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at tracking down those problems. We can offer a repair solution that is for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a sinking foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
