Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For a long time, they were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control high humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will seal the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent pests and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if you need it we will install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, normally they will present themselves as stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem problematic when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at evaluating these issues. We can utilize a repair solution that is for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a sloping foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
