Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces and not basements. For many years, they were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been helping customers with their crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will seal the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop rodents and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to lift sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also is the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that the doors or windows will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at spotting those issues. We can utilize a repair solution that is for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a uneven foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
