Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas and not basements. For a long time, they were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been encapsulating crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can close off the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop critters and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to repair sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves as stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows and doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at tracking down these problems. We can offer a repair product designed for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a uneven foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
