Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been enclosing crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will seal the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. This will also prevent pests and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a system of floor jacks to level sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of the most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also is the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, they will generally show themselves as diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that the doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at noticing these issues. We can offer a repair product designed for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a settling foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
