Crawl Space Solutions
In Fort Monroe, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces and not basements. For many years, these were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been dealing with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control the humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will seal the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent rodents and animals from getting in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a system of floor jacks to repair sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, they will generally present themselves as stair stepping cracks in your brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that your doors or windows will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at spotting these problems. We can implement a repair product intended for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a settling foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
