Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas and not basements. For a long time, these were built with open vents which was intended to increase air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can close off the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. This will also prevent bugs and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if you need it we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to level sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of the most important parts. It not only supports the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, they will generally present themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that the windows will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at tracking down those issues. We can implement a repair solution designed for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a sloping foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
