Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For many years, these were constructed with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been encapsulating crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can seal the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop rodents and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we can install a system of floor jacks to lift sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the building itself but it also is the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that your doors or windows will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem critical at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at noticing those problems. We can implement a repair solution designed for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a sinking foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
