Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For a long time, they were created with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been dealing with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to seal them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can seal the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent bugs and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a system of floor jacks to level sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, they will generally show themselves as diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that your windows will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems to determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at spotting these problems. We can utilize a repair product designed for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a sinking foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
