Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For many years, they were constructed with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been dealing with crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will close off the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent bugs and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to level sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves as stair-step cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors or windows will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem problematic when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems to determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at noticing these issues. We can implement a repair product designed for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a settling foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
