Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Up to half of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will close off the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. This will also prevent rodents and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to level sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also is the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves as stair stepping cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that your windows or doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at evaluating those problems. We can offer a repair solution that is for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a uneven foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
