Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For a long time, these were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will seal the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop rodents and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to lift sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that the windows and doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems to determine if a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at spotting these problems. We can implement a repair product designed for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a uneven foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
