Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to seal them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will close off the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent critters and animals from settling in your crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a system of floor jacks to repair sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also is the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem critical at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at spotting these problems. We can implement a repair solution designed for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a sloping foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
