Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For a long time, these were constructed with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been enclosing crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to seal them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop rodents and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, they will generally show themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that your doors and windows will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at noticing those problems. We can implement a repair solution that is for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a uneven foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
