It is critical that once you see a problem with the foundation or crawl space that you reach out to an experienced repair company. We recommend this because there are quite a few potentially dangerous problems that can arise with these issues such as mildew, weakened structure, and even permanent foundation damage. No matter if you're needing our foundation repair services to prevent your home from sinking, or crawl space services to control humidity below the home, our experts are here to help you.
Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For many years, they were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been encapsulating crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will close off the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent pests and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only supports the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves as stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows and doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at spotting these problems. We can utilize a repair product that is for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a settling foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
