Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For many years, they were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will seal the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop pests and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a series of floor jacks to repair sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that your doors or windows will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at noticing those issues. We can utilize a repair solution intended for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a settling foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
