Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For many years, these were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to half of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been enclosing crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can seal the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent bugs and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a series of floor jacks to level sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, normally they will show themselves as stair stepping cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows and doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem problematic at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at noticing those problems. We can implement a repair solution designed for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a sinking foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
