Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For a long time, they were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which can foster the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been encapsulating crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also prevent critters and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is protected, if you need it we will install a series of floor jacks to level sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, they will generally show themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that the windows and doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at noticing those issues. We can utilize a repair solution that is for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a sinking foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
