Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces and not basements. For a long time, they were created with vents which was intended to increase air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to seal them off and control the humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can close off the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also prevent critters and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is protected, if you need it we can install a system of floor jacks to repair sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves as stair stepping cracks in your brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that your doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at spotting these issues. We can offer a repair solution intended for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a settling foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
