Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For many years, they were built with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been dealing with crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the best way to close them off and control high humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent critters and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that your windows or doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem problematic when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at noticing these problems. We can utilize a repair solution intended for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a sinking foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
