Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces and not basements. For a long time, they were constructed with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Up to half of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been enclosing crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can close off the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also prevent pests and animals from getting in the crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to level sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, they will generally present themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows or doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem critical at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at noticing these problems. We can utilize a repair product that is for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a uneven foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
