Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For a long time, they were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been enclosing crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can seal the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop bugs and animals from settling in your crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is protected, if necessary we can install a system of floor jacks to lift sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors and windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at spotting those issues. We can implement a repair solution that is for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a sloping foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
