Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For many years, these were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been dealing with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can close off the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also stop pests and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a system of floor jacks to lift sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves as stair-step cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors or windows will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at tracking down those problems. We can implement a repair solution designed for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a uneven foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
