Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces and not basements. For many years, these were created with vents which was intended to increase air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can close off the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent bugs and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we can install a system of floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, normally they will show themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in your brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows or doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem critical when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems to determine if a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at noticing those problems. We can implement a repair solution designed for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a uneven foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
