Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For many years, these were created with open vents which was intended to increase air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been dealing with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can seal the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent critters and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also is the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, normally they will present themselves as diagonal cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors and windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at evaluating these issues. We can implement a repair product intended for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a uneven foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
