Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which can harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will seal the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also stop pests and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to level sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that the windows and doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem problematic when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at spotting those problems. We can utilize a repair solution that is for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a settling foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
