Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For many years, these were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can seal the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop rodents and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is protected, if you need it we can install a series of floor jacks to repair sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, normally they will show themselves as stair-step cracks in your brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem problematic when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at evaluating those issues. We can offer a repair solution designed for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a uneven foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
