Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the best way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. This will also stop critters and animals from settling in your crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to repair sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves as stair stepping cracks in your brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem problematic when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at spotting these issues. We can implement a repair solution that is for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a sloping foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
