Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces and not basements. For a long time, these were created with vents which was intended to increase air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to half of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been encapsulating crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to seal them off and control the humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can seal the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop rodents and animals from settling in your crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a system of floor jacks to repair sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves as stair-step cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem problematic at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at noticing those problems. We can implement a repair product intended for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a settling foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
