Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For a long time, they were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been encapsulating crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent pests and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to lift sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the building itself but it also is the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that the doors and windows will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at noticing these problems. We can offer a repair product designed for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a settling foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
