Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For many years, these were created with open vents which was intended to increase air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which can harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent critters and animals from getting in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is closed off, if you need it we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to repair sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that your windows will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems to determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at tracking down these problems. We can utilize a repair product designed for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a sloping foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
