Crawl Space Solutions
In Diggs, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were constructed with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been enclosing crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can close off the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop rodents and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a system of floor jacks to level sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, they will generally show themselves as stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that the windows or doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem problematic when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at spotting those issues. We can utilize a repair product intended for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a sloping foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
