Crawl Space Solutions
In Diggs, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For many years, they were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been dealing with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can seal the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent bugs and animals from settling in your crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if you need it we can install a system of floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors and windows will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at noticing these problems. We can implement a repair product that is for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a sloping foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
