Crawl Space Solutions
In Diggs, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For a long time, they were constructed with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control the humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will seal the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop rodents and animals from settling in your crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the building itself but it also is the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, they will generally present themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in your brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors and windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at evaluating these issues. We can utilize a repair product that is for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a uneven foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
