Crawl Space Solutions
In Diggs, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been enclosing crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the best way to close them off and control high humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent bugs and animals from getting in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a series of floor jacks to repair sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also is the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem problematic when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at spotting those problems. We can offer a repair product intended for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a sloping foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
