Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For many years, they were created with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been working on crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the best way to close them off and control the humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will seal the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent pests and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a series of floor jacks to repair sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, normally they will present themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that the windows or doors will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems to determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at evaluating those problems. We can implement a repair product intended for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a sloping foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
