Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were constructed with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to seal them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can seal the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop pests and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, normally they will present themselves as stair-step cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that your doors and windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem problematic at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at noticing those issues. We can offer a repair solution designed for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a sloping foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
