Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were constructed with vents which was intended to increase air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to half of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control high humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop rodents and animals from settling in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to repair sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves as diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows and doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem critical at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems to determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at spotting these problems. We can utilize a repair solution designed for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a sloping foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
