Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For a long time, these were built with vents which was intended to increase air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to seal them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will seal the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop rodents and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a series of floor jacks to repair sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also is the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that the doors or windows will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at tracking down these problems. We can offer a repair solution that is for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a sloping foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
