Crawl Space Solutions
In Diggs, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were created with open vents which was intended to increase air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will close off the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent critters and animals from getting in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to repair sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also is the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, they will generally present themselves as diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that the doors or windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem critical when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at spotting these issues. We can implement a repair product designed for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a sloping foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
