Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were created with open vents which was intended to increase air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been dealing with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will close off the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop bugs and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a series of floor jacks to lift sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, they will generally present themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem problematic at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at evaluating these issues. We can implement a repair solution intended for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a uneven foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
