Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For many years, these were constructed with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working on crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the best way to close them off and control the humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will seal the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop bugs and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, they will generally show themselves as stair stepping cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors and windows will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem problematic when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at spotting these problems. We can offer a repair product intended for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a sinking foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
