Crawl Space Solutions
In Diggs, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For a long time, these were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been enclosing crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will seal the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop rodents and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a system of floor jacks to lift sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also is the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves as stair-step cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that your doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem critical when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at spotting those issues. We can offer a repair product that is for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a settling foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
