Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been enclosing crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to seal them off and control the humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will seal the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. This will also stop critters and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is protected, if you need it we will install a system of floor jacks to stabilize sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also is the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in your brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that your windows will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at noticing those problems. We can offer a repair product that is for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a sinking foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
