Crawl Space Solutions
In Diggs, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were constructed with vents which was intended to increase air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been enclosing crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. This will also prevent pests and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a system of floor jacks to repair sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that the doors and windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at spotting those problems. We can offer a repair solution that is for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a settling foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
