Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas and not basements. For a long time, they were built with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been dealing with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will seal the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop critters and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to repair sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors and windows will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at spotting these issues. We can offer a repair product that is for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a sinking foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
