Crawl Space Solutions
In Diggs, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to half of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been dealing with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can seal the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also stop critters and animals from moving in your crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we can install a series of floor jacks to repair sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also is the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, they will generally present themselves as stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors and windows will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at evaluating these problems. We can utilize a repair solution designed for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a sloping foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
