Crawl Space Solutions
In Diggs, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas and not basements. For many years, these were constructed with vents which was intended to increase air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the proper way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can close off the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also prevent pests and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is protected, if you need it we can install a series of floor jacks to lift sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, normally they will present themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that the windows will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at evaluating these problems. We can offer a repair product intended for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a uneven foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
