We say this because there are quite a few additional problems that can arise with these issues including mildew, reduced structural integrity, and even permanent foundation damage. It doesn't matter if you need our foundation repair services to stop cracks from growing in the foundation, or crawl space services to prevent mildew growth in the crawl space, our experts are here to help you.
Crawl Space Solutions
In Diggs, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For many years, they were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been encapsulating crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the proper way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will close off the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent rodents and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to repair sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows or doors will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at spotting these problems. We can implement a repair solution designed for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a sinking foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
