Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces and not basements. For many years, these were built with open vents which was intended to increase air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which can foster the growth of mildew. Up to half of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been encapsulating crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to seal them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will seal the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also stop bugs and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, they will generally present themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that the doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems to determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at evaluating those issues. We can implement a repair product designed for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a sinking foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
