Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For many years, these were constructed with vents which was intended to increase air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Up to half of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can close off the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop pests and animals from settling in the crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a system of floor jacks to lift sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, normally they will show themselves as stair stepping cracks in your brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that your windows will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem problematic when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at spotting those issues. We can offer a repair solution designed for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a uneven foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
