Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For a long time, they were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will close off the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent critters and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to level sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that the doors and windows will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem problematic at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at noticing those problems. We can implement a repair product that is for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a settling foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
