Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which can harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been enclosing crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will close off the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. This will also stop pests and animals from settling in your crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a system of floor jacks to level sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors and windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at evaluating those problems. We can implement a repair solution designed for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a sloping foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
