Crawl Space Solutions
In Diggs, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been dealing with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will close off the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent critters and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a system of floor jacks to level sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, they will generally show themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors and windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at noticing those problems. We can utilize a repair product designed for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a sinking foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
