Crawl Space Solutions

Crawl Space Encapsulation in Diggs

In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For many years, these were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which can foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.

We have been working on crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to seal them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. This will also prevent rodents and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is protected, if you need it we can install a series of floor jacks to repair sloping floors above the crawl space.

Structural Foundation Repair

Stair Step Crack Repair in Diggs

Your foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also is the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, they will generally present themselves as stair-step cracks in your brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that your windows or doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.

It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at spotting those problems. We can offer a repair product intended for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a uneven foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
