Crawl Space Solutions
In Diggs, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For many years, these were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which can foster the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the weather and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can close off the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. This will also stop critters and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to repair sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, normally they will show themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at noticing these problems. We can implement a repair product that is for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a sloping foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
