Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas and not basements. For many years, these were built with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control high humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can close off the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent pests and animals from moving in your crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in your brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that your doors and windows will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem problematic at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at tracking down these problems. We can implement a repair solution intended for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a settling foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
