Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces and not basements. For many years, these were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to half of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been dealing with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent rodents and animals from moving in your crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to level sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in your brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows or doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at noticing these issues. We can offer a repair solution intended for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a sinking foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
