Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas and not basements. For many years, these were constructed with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space protected from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been helping customers with their crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control high humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop pests and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a system of floor jacks to level sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows or doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at spotting these problems. We can offer a repair solution intended for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a uneven foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
