Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working on crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the best way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can close off the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent bugs and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is protected, if you need it we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to level sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of the most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem problematic when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at evaluating these issues. We can implement a repair solution that is for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a sinking foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
