Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were created with open vents which was intended to increase air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space protected from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control the humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will seal the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent bugs and animals from getting in the crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a system of floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also is the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves as stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that the windows and doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem problematic at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at spotting these issues. We can implement a repair solution intended for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a sloping foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
