Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For a long time, these were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been enclosing crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control the humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can close off the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also prevent bugs and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to level sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves as stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at spotting these problems. We can implement a repair product that is for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a uneven foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
