Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to half of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been enclosing crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can seal the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. This will also stop bugs and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to repair sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also is the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, they will generally show themselves as stair stepping cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors and windows will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem critical at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at noticing those issues. We can offer a repair solution that is for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a sinking foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
