Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which can foster the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been helping customers with their crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent pests and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, normally they will present themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows or doors will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at noticing those problems. We can implement a repair solution intended for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a sinking foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
