Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were constructed with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can close off the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent pests and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we can install a system of floor jacks to repair sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves as stair-step cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that the doors and windows will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at spotting these issues. We can implement a repair solution intended for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a uneven foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
