Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For a long time, they were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been enclosing crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent bugs and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to lift sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows or doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem critical at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at noticing those problems. We can utilize a repair solution that is for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a sloping foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
