Crawl Space Solutions

In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces and not basements. For many years, they were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to close them off and control high humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent bugs and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to repair sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair

The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that the doors and windows will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems to determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at evaluating those problems. We can utilize a repair solution intended for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a uneven foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
