Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas and not basements. For many years, they were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been working on crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to seal them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent bugs and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a system of floor jacks to level sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, normally they will show themselves as stair stepping cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors and windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at noticing those problems. We can utilize a repair product that is for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a settling foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
