Crawl Space Solutions

In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For many years, these were constructed with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space protected from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been dealing with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control high humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will seal the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also prevent pests and animals from getting in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair

Your homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors or windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at evaluating these problems. We can utilize a repair solution designed for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a sloping foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
