Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces and not basements. For many years, they were built with open vents which was intended to increase air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been encapsulating crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can close off the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent pests and animals from settling in the crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a series of floor jacks to lift sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, they will generally show themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that the doors and windows will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems to determine if a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at tracking down those issues. We can utilize a repair product that is for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a settling foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
