Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will seal the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop rodents and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves as stair stepping cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows and doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at spotting those problems. We can offer a repair solution designed for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a settling foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
