Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For a long time, they were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been enclosing crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can seal the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent bugs and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to repair sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also is the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves as stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that the doors or windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem problematic when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at noticing those issues. We can offer a repair solution designed for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a sloping foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
