Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to seal them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will close off the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also stop bugs and animals from moving in your crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves as stair-step cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows and doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at tracking down these problems. We can utilize a repair product designed for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a sloping foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
