Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been helping customers with their crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the proper way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also stop rodents and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to repair sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also is the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves as stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that the doors or windows will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem critical when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at evaluating these issues. We can utilize a repair solution intended for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a uneven foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
