Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces and not basements. For a long time, they were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Up to half of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been dealing with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will close off the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop bugs and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a system of floor jacks to level sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows and doors will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for particular problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at noticing those issues. We can offer a repair solution that is for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a uneven foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
