Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For a long time, these were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to half of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been helping customers with their crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will close off the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop critters and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to lift sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, they will generally present themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors or windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at tracking down those problems. We can utilize a repair solution that is for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a sloping foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
