Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will seal the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop critters and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a system of floor jacks to lift sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in your brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors or windows will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at noticing these problems. We can implement a repair product that is for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a sloping foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
