Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can close off the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent pests and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to level sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows and doors will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at noticing these problems. We can utilize a repair product that is for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a settling foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
