Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For many years, these were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to seal them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can close off the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop rodents and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a system of floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, normally they will show themselves as stair stepping cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at tracking down these issues. We can implement a repair product designed for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a sloping foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
