Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For a long time, they were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will seal the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent rodents and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to level sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also is the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, they will generally present themselves as diagonal cracks in your brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that your doors or windows will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at noticing those problems. We can offer a repair product intended for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a sloping foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
