Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been working on crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will close off the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent bugs and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves as stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for particular problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at evaluating those problems. We can implement a repair product designed for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a sloping foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
