Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to half of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been dealing with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to seal them off and control the humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can seal the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop rodents and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a series of floor jacks to level sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of the most important parts. It not only supports the home itself but it also is the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, they will generally show themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that your doors or windows will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at tracking down those problems. We can utilize a repair product that is for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a sinking foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
