Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas and not basements. For many years, they were built with open vents which was intended to increase air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been dealing with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to seal them off and control the humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. This will also prevent pests and animals from settling in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we can install a series of floor jacks to level sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that the windows and doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems to determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at noticing these problems. We can offer a repair solution that is for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a sloping foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
