Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which can foster the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been dealing with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. This will also stop bugs and animals from settling in your crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, normally they will show themselves as diagonal cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that the windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem problematic at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at tracking down these problems. We can implement a repair product designed for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a sloping foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
