Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were built with vents which was intended to increase air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will seal the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop pests and animals from getting in the crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is protected, if you need it we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves as diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that the doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem problematic when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at evaluating those problems. We can offer a repair product that is for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a uneven foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
