Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were created with vents which was intended to increase air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been enclosing crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can seal the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also prevent bugs and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if you need it we can install a system of floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves as stair stepping cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors or windows will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem problematic when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at tracking down these problems. We can implement a repair solution intended for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a sinking foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
