Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were built with vents which was intended to increase air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been dealing with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can close off the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop rodents and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a series of floor jacks to lift sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, normally they will present themselves as diagonal cracks in your brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors or windows will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at noticing these issues. We can implement a repair solution designed for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a uneven foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
