Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For a long time, they were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.

This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will close off the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent bugs and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to level sinking floors above the crawl space.
