Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will seal the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. This will also prevent critters and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is protected, if you need it we will install a series of floor jacks to repair sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also is the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that your windows and doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem critical when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at noticing those issues. We can implement a repair solution intended for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a settling foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
