Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For a long time, they were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the weather and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been enclosing crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent critters and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a system of floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves as stair stepping cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that your windows will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem critical at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at evaluating these issues. We can offer a repair solution that is for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a sinking foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
