Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces and not basements. For a long time, these were constructed with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Up to half of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can close off the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. This will also stop bugs and animals from getting in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a series of floor jacks to repair sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, normally they will show themselves as diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows or doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem problematic at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at spotting these problems. We can implement a repair solution that is for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a sinking foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
