Crawl Space Solutions
In Chesapeake, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For many years, they were constructed with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been dealing with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will seal the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop rodents and animals from moving in your crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to level sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also is the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, normally they will show themselves as stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that the doors or windows will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at spotting those problems. We can utilize a repair product that is for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a settling foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
