Crawl Space Solutions
In Chesapeake, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which can foster the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been encapsulating crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can seal the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent bugs and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to repair sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also is the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that the doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at tracking down those problems. We can offer a repair product intended for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a sloping foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
