Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces and not basements. For a long time, these were constructed with vents which was intended to increase air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which can foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been enclosing crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the best way to seal them off and control high humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can seal the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop rodents and animals from getting in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is protected, if you need it we can install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also is the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves as stair-step cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors or windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at noticing those problems. We can offer a repair solution that is for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a settling foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
