Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been dealing with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to seal them off and control high humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can seal the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop critters and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if necessary we can install a series of floor jacks to repair sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves as stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that the doors or windows will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem critical when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at noticing these problems. We can utilize a repair product intended for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a sloping foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
