Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas and not basements. For many years, they were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been helping customers with their crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will close off the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also stop bugs and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is protected, if you need it we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also is the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves as diagonal cracks in your brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that your windows will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at spotting these problems. We can implement a repair solution intended for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a sinking foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
