Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For a long time, these were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to half of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will seal the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop bugs and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is protected, if you need it we will install a system of floor jacks to repair sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows or doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem problematic when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at spotting those issues. We can utilize a repair solution intended for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a sinking foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
