Crawl Space Solutions
In Chesapeake, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces and not basements. For a long time, these were built with open vents which was intended to increase air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will seal the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent rodents and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, they will generally present themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors or windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at noticing those problems. We can implement a repair product that is for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a uneven foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
