Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces and not basements. For a long time, they were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the weather and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent bugs and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in your brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors or windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem critical at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at evaluating those problems. We can implement a repair product designed for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a uneven foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
