Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Up to half of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been dealing with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will seal the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop bugs and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a system of floor jacks to stabilize sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only supports the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves as stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows and doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems to determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at noticing these issues. We can offer a repair product that is for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a sloping foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
