Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For a long time, they were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been encapsulating crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can close off the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop critters and animals from settling in your crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to repair sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, they will generally present themselves as diagonal cracks in your brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that your windows will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at noticing these issues. We can utilize a repair product designed for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a sinking foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
