Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For a long time, they were built with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been enclosing crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will seal the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also stop bugs and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that your doors and windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at tracking down these issues. We can utilize a repair product designed for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a sloping foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
