Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were created with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will close off the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop bugs and animals from moving in your crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to lift sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only supports the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in your brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors or windows will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at spotting those issues. We can utilize a repair solution intended for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a settling foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
