Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For a long time, they were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working on crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can close off the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop bugs and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, they will generally present themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that the windows will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at tracking down these problems. We can utilize a repair solution intended for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a sloping foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
