Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For many years, they were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working on crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to seal them off and control the humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will close off the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop bugs and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is protected, if you need it we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the building itself but it also is the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that the windows and doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem problematic when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at spotting those issues. We can implement a repair product designed for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a uneven foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
