Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For a long time, these were constructed with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to half of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to seal them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can close off the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent rodents and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is protected, if you need it we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to level sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that your doors or windows will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem problematic at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at noticing these problems. We can implement a repair product intended for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a uneven foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
