Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces and not basements. For a long time, these were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the weather and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been enclosing crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to seal them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will seal the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent rodents and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a series of floor jacks to repair sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves as stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors and windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at noticing these issues. We can offer a repair product that is for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a settling foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
