Crawl Space Solutions
In Cardinal, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were constructed with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can foster the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can close off the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent rodents and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is closed off, if you need it we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to lift sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, normally they will present themselves as stair-step cracks in your brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that your windows or doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at noticing those problems. We can utilize a repair product intended for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a uneven foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
