Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For many years, these were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the weather and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been encapsulating crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will close off the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent rodents and animals from moving in your crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a series of floor jacks to lift sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at noticing those issues. We can implement a repair solution intended for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a uneven foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
