Crawl Space Solutions
In Cardinal, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control high humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can seal the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent pests and animals from settling in the crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a series of floor jacks to lift sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves as diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows and doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem critical at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at spotting these problems. We can offer a repair solution intended for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a settling foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
