Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For many years, these were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can foster the growth of mildew. Up to half of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the weather and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working on crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to seal them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent bugs and animals from settling in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is protected, if necessary we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to repair sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also is the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves as diagonal cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that the doors and windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at spotting these problems. We can implement a repair solution designed for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a sloping foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
