Crawl Space Solutions
In Cardinal, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For a long time, they were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been dealing with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control high humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can close off the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. This will also prevent critters and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is protected, if necessary we can install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves as diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows and doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at noticing these problems. We can implement a repair product designed for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a uneven foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
