Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas and not basements. For a long time, they were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been enclosing crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control high humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will close off the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. This will also prevent pests and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to repair sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that the windows and doors will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at spotting these problems. We can offer a repair product intended for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a sinking foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
