Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For many years, they were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been enclosing crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will close off the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent pests and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a system of floor jacks to lift sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, they will generally show themselves as stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows and doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at tracking down these issues. We can utilize a repair product intended for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a sinking foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
