Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For many years, these were created with vents which was intended to increase air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been enclosing crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to seal them off and control high humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will seal the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop critters and animals from settling in your crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to lift sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that your doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at noticing these problems. We can utilize a repair product intended for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a uneven foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
