Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For a long time, these were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the weather and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been helping customers with their crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control high humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can seal the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent rodents and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a system of floor jacks to repair sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves as stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors and windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem problematic when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at evaluating these problems. We can offer a repair product intended for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a settling foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
