Crawl Space Solutions
In Cardinal, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For many years, they were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been encapsulating crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the proper way to seal them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can seal the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent critters and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if you need it we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of the most important parts. It not only supports the home itself but it also is the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows and doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem problematic at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at spotting these issues. We can implement a repair solution intended for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a sloping foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
