Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For a long time, they were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been dealing with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will seal the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also stop critters and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, normally they will present themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at evaluating those problems. We can offer a repair solution that is for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a uneven foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
