Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will seal the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent critters and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a system of floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also is the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves as diagonal cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that the doors and windows will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem problematic when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at noticing these problems. We can implement a repair product designed for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a sloping foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
