Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which can foster the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been dealing with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control the humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can seal the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop critters and animals from settling in the crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is closed off, if you need it we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to level sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, they will generally present themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in your brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem problematic at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at evaluating these issues. We can offer a repair solution intended for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a uneven foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
