Crawl Space Solutions
In Cardinal, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For a long time, these were built with vents which was intended to increase air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which can foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to seal them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. This will also prevent bugs and animals from settling in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to level sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of the most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also is the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, normally they will show themselves as stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows or doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem critical at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at noticing those issues. We can implement a repair solution that is for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a uneven foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
