Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas and not basements. For a long time, these were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which can harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been encapsulating crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to seal them off and control the humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can close off the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. This will also prevent bugs and animals from moving in your crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is protected, if you need it we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of the most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also is the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves as stair-step cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors and windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at noticing those problems. We can offer a repair product that is for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a sinking foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
