Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been dealing with crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the proper way to seal them off and control high humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will seal the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also prevent critters and animals from settling in your crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at noticing those issues. We can utilize a repair solution that is for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a uneven foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
