Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were constructed with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to half of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to close them off and control high humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will close off the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop pests and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to lift sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the building itself but it also is the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that the doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at noticing these issues. We can utilize a repair product intended for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a settling foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
