Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were built with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can close off the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop pests and animals from settling in your crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is protected, if you need it we can install a series of floor jacks to level sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, they will generally show themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in your brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that your doors or windows will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems to determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at tracking down those issues. We can implement a repair solution intended for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a uneven foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
