Crawl Space Solutions
In Cardinal, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For a long time, these were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been enclosing crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will seal the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent critters and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a system of floor jacks to stabilize sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in your brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that your doors or windows will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem problematic when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at tracking down those issues. We can implement a repair product that is for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a settling foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
