Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were constructed with vents which was intended to increase air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Up to half of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been dealing with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control high humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will seal the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop critters and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a system of floor jacks to level sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, normally they will present themselves as stair-step cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows and doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at evaluating those issues. We can offer a repair solution that is for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a settling foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
