Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces and not basements. For many years, these were built with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been enclosing crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also prevent bugs and animals from getting in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a series of floor jacks to level sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only supports the home itself but it also is the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, they will generally present themselves as stair stepping cracks in your brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that your doors will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at spotting those issues. We can offer a repair product that is for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a settling foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
