Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For many years, they were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can close off the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent bugs and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if you need it we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to repair sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, normally they will present themselves as stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that the doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem problematic when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at noticing those problems. We can offer a repair product that is for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a settling foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
