Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas and not basements. For many years, they were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to half of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will close off the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also prevent bugs and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to level sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, they will generally present themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that your doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems to determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at spotting those problems. We can offer a repair product intended for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a uneven foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
