Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces and not basements. For a long time, these were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been helping customers with their crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control high humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. This will also stop critters and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a series of floor jacks to repair sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows and doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems to determine if a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at noticing these problems. We can offer a repair solution designed for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a uneven foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
