Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For many years, these were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control high humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can close off the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent rodents and animals from moving in your crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, normally they will show themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in your brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at noticing these issues. We can offer a repair product intended for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a uneven foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
