Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For a long time, these were created with vents which was intended to increase air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to seal them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will close off the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop pests and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a series of floor jacks to lift sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves as stair stepping cracks in your brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors or windows will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at spotting these problems. We can implement a repair product intended for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a sinking foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
