Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For many years, these were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can close off the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop pests and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if you need it we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to repair sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves as stair-step cracks in your brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that your doors and windows will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem critical when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for particular problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at tracking down those issues. We can offer a repair product that is for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a sinking foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
